Mrs Frugal
Hmmmmm, I bought some for pennies last year at a car boot sale! They are the sort supermarkets sell full of pate which someone obviously wanted to get rid of so it might be worth looking in charity shops etc just in case. Mine are nice pottery ones in red, blue or green. Good luck!!
Cinnamon
I would ask on Freecycle, or try ebay.
Mrs Frugal
Freecycle's a good idea, Sarah.
Guest
I've been mooching round the charity shops lately, nothing freecycle is rubbish these days, we asked for empty spirit bottles and not had a single reply! Thanks anyway **edit** found these which seem ideal! http://www.justasoap.co.uk/catalog/wide-neck-straight-sided-jar-200ml-pack-p-528.html
Christian
Lovely looking honey comb Lesley The brown paper bags have yankee cake tea lights inside and the thing on the left is a web candle. I managed to pick some up in Denmark last week. They sell them in Lakeland and look lovely when they have burnt down a bit. http://www.lakeland.co.uk/ice-crystal-candle/F/keyword/candles/product/40541 What about these for pate? http://www.ascott.biz/acatalog/info_1_DP340.html
Guest
thanks Christian, the candle is lovely isn't it! I saw those little terracotta pots on e-bay but I wanted something cheaper and with a lid so I've gone for these in the end, on a budget you see http://www.justasoap.co.uk/catalog/wide-neck-straight-sided-jar-200ml-pack-p-528.html I'm going to make a simple (free range) chicken liver pate with the emphasis on free range! but, i also got these at the same time for my truffles http://www.justasoap.co.uk/catalog/small-pvc-cornet-cone-p-518.html I must stop now as I think that's plenty of stuff for my hampers! Berkochicks
Anyone else doing pickled eggs? Do you think they are too much of an acquired taste? Do you think the "Home Counties" could cope with pickled eggs? I love them, but I was brought up in the north in a time when curry sauce with your chips was seen as exotic. Guest
I have never had a pickled egg, in all of my 38 years, have I been missing something?
Olly
I love pickled eggs (and I grew up in the 'Home Counties') but it's an acquired taste, we had some at our last family get-together (not homemade ones) and it was a bit like Marmite, some people scoffed them up and some were going ! It's a traditional way of preserving eggs, isn't it - I think it's absolutely ideal for a Christmas hamper.
