Groovychook
Finally managed to take some photo's of the girls! ... they've been exploring the garden for the past couple of days. We'd avoided clipping their wings until now but OH has just come rushing in to say that Phyllis had just flown over the fence after having been spooked by a buzzard flying overhead... he managed to recapture her straight away though. Surprising news really as all the other girls take themselves up to bed every night, leaving poor little Phyllis in the run. We've made her a little step up to the first rung in case it's too much of a jump but she refuses to use it... She jabbers away, pacing up & down until OH squeezes into the run to 'hop' her up the rungs one by one. We're going to make her a ramp today & see how that goes... She's such a cute little chook though - loves a cuddle! Anyway - better find a pair of sharp scissors and start the dreaded wing clipping... !! It's going to be difficult to get hold of the other girls - only Phyllis & Hilda have allowed us to hold them yet - wish us luck! Audrey, Betty & Elsie Blanche Elsie Audrey Hilda Phyllis - the baby of the bunch!

Barkisland
They are lovely girls! We had to make a ramp for our girl's cube, they weren't getting the ladder thing at all I tried the torch and everything, but kept finding them huddled in a corner and crying at nightfall. For three nights I left them til dark in the hope they'd catch on, but had to pick them up and put them to bed each night. As soon as the ramp appeared, they started using it and no looking back
Gamebird
What lovely girls. Very pretty. I have had to clip 3 of my girls' wings and I found the best time to get hold of them was about an hour after they had gone to sleep. They were very quiet and happy to be picked up. MedusA
Please don't take this the wrong way, but I'm glad to hear that one of your lavender Araucanas is a bit dim, Groovychook. I thought it was just mine! It took them ages to get the hang of going to bed on their own. They would try and sleep anywhere but in the eglu. I've never had this problem with any of my other hens. Lovely pics BTW.
