Family Tree

Recommended Posts

Hi

My better half was chatting to her mum about the Lakeland run in all that bad weather yesterday.

It turns out the an member of my wife side used to do this run many years ago.

Also there are family connections to Cockermouth something which neither of us knew.

Seems strange how the details came out.

Has any one else had facts come in a strange way?

Best regards

Hi

I started looking into my family tree again on the Laidler side of the family.

The come from around the Sunderland area.

I have requested a copy of the wills so I might be able to shed so light on

long lost relations.

Is there any Omleteer who live around the Newcastle / Sunderland area who

might be able to look for a nursing home for me in your yellow pages, please.

Thank you.

Best regards

Ian

I have found 9 variations of one surname in my tree. Maybe because it has a slight French sound about it. Even Ancestry, FamilyOrg etc have not picked them up.

It was very sad to discover that when my gt, gt, grandfather died at the age of 40 years, one of his children ended up in prison, another in an industrial training ship (aka a reformatory ship where the birch was used as a punishment) and another in workhouse infirmary. No Social Services in those days!

I have been unable to find out what happened to my gt, gt, grandmother. She is probably listed somewhere with yet another name variation.

Yeah I would like to keep in touch with him. He is my Dad's second cousin who we didn't know even existed until I received the email. He wants me to find out a few bits and pieces for him, so I've got to try and get some sense out of my Dad :wink:

These are the photos that he sent over. My Grandad owned a small coach company called Little Wonder from the 1920s to 1950s and is driving the bus on the first pic but I'm not sure who any of the others are yet - hopefully Dad can shed some light on them.

Aren't they lovely? :lol:8)

I love looking at old photos and to have the history behind them is lovely.

We've just been contacted through Genes Reunited by my grandfather's brother's grandaughter. My mum never knew that her Dad's brothers had even got married. Its very exciting.

Unfortunately on both sides of my parents families, they seem to have all got the hump with each other and lost contact. One on my Dad's side even destroyed all documents and photos of my Great Granddad. We have no photos of Gt Granddad. He died in in the First World War and is buried in France. It is horrible really, I would love to know what he looked like.

My mum has a great photo of my Gt Grandmother though and some other relatives. They are obviously going out somewhere and all the women have lovely floral dresses on and hats. They look great. You can tell from the photo that Isabella was a formidable woman though

I'd love to do mine but both my parents came from Poland, my Mother as a refugee and my Father joined the RAF as a member of the Free Polish Air Force.

Alas, no records of anything remain.

I'm trying to find out something about my daughter's father (deceased ) for her sake but have little to go on apart from where he was born. When we married both his parents were already dead.

:) Yes, lovely photos, & this is a great topic, such an interesting mix of personal memories & social history.

DA, I found your post particularly poignant. There must be many people who for similar reasons can't trace back further than their own parents.

It's still important to record the smallest details that you know about parents, as even this info. can be lost over time.

A French connection Egluntine? Good luck to everone with their researching. :)

I've just been contacted by someone in Canada who may be related to my husband's Grandmother's family. I'll look into it later, but it's lovely meeting people in this way.

Earlier this year I met up with my mother's cousins (who she hasn't seen since childhood) and their families. I suppose the ladies my age were second cousins but it felt really strange and exciting to look around the room and see my eyes looking back at me everywhere. The likeness between us all was really striking and yet our connection was quite distant. :D We all got on very well as well. I think personalities were similar and had been passed down too. :D
