Ambulance Girl
I'm a bit confused., I've just dosed the girls with Xeno200 for the first time, can anyone tell me what the position is re: egg withdrawal ?
Gamebird
According to the manufacturers there is a 7 day egg withdrawal period.
Ambulance Girl
Hi Gamebird, Thank you for your reply, I assume I throw the eggs away, seems such a waste. Regards.
Egluntyne
Yes....strictly speaking, you should discard them. If you feed them back to the hens, you put more of the drug back into their system.
Lewis
Can you not compost the eggs?
Gallina
I compost any problem eggs myself, because I don't like the idea of them breaking in my bin. But they should not go in whole: they need to be well mixed up with less pleasant material, as rats adore eggs. Is it unsafe to lower the dose of the drug and then make it up by feeding the hens with their own eggs?
Egluntyne
Is it unsafe to lower the dose of the drug and then make it up by feeding the hens with their own eggs? I'm not sure how you would be able to calculate the correct dose tbh. Ivermectin is a drug used in the third world to treat gut worms in humans, so I personally don't discard the eggs when using Xeno 200 I just don't pass them on to other people. *Ivermectin is not licensed for use in poultry in UK. I wouldn't use eggs if antibiotics had been given to the hen though.
