Paola
I have had to have my head girl Colleen put to sleep this morning She was out of sorts and I just put it down to her having a moult (sp?). I am not sure how the other 2 are going to cope without her. Neither of them are really top chook material. Now I would like to get another chook but not a bantam. I really fancy a RIR mini, having read what has been said on Poets thread. I know the perils of introducing just one but I think that the run would be to small for 2 bantams and 2 minis Any ideas/advice?
Christian
Sorry to hear about Colleen Paola You did what was best for her. If you are able to let them out, then they would be fine. Or a converter?
keyhole kate
Aaah sorry to hear your news but you did your very best for your little girl. God luck with your intros whatever you decide to get
Paola
Or a converter? That might be the best way to go. I have emailed a local breeder. It has been a long time since I have got any new chooks. Fells a little odd

The Dogmother
Sorry to hear about Colleen. Paola, my orange eglu is resting for the winter if you'd like to borrow it for intros. You could easily get the 4 in a run with the extension on, shame that I have already sold my extension. RIRs are great personalities and really consistent layers. Roxanne has just stopped laying for the winter and is a chatty, tactile bird. Have you thought about an araucana too? blue eggs....

Prob is I might not want to give it back Oooooo blue eggs. Will google later and have a look at them. My poor remaining girls are at a bit of a loose end without her. She was a guiding and calming influence on them.
The Dogmother
Araucana minis are very gentle... mad as a bag of ferrets, but gentle and sweet. they lay lovely blue/turquoise eggs. Try the back pages of Practical Poultry mag or pekinbantams.com forum both have extensive lists of breeds available.
Egluntyne
Sorry to hear about Colleen. If you can manage 2, I'd go for it. Any unwanted attention will be diluted.
clootie
Aww Paola, sorry about your girl. I'm down to two girls now but I'm reluctant to do anything until we find out what's happening about house, DH's job etc. I'd love blue eggs - beautiful. Take your time and visit a few. They'll decide for you I'm sure !! Hugs.
