Any ideas on keeping the woodchip INSIDE the run?

Recommended Posts

I've moved the Eglu and run onto the patio for the winter and covered it with 2 sheets of clear corregated plastic from Wickes - brill! :)

On the slabs I have put loads of wood chip down. Melody loves to kick it all out the sides. :wall:

Has anyone got any ideas for something to go along the bottom edges of the run please?

Blimey Bigmommasally your run cover looks immaculate what on eath is it and how is it held on?!

Regarding the woodchip I hammered in some tent pegs a couple of cm from the run sides(you can also get fleece pegs from garden centres) and put wood boards between the pegs and the run sides. I also put one across the front of the run and just slide it out when I need to open the door.

Lots of people use the lawn edging though and it is cheap and works very well apparently

If you are feeling flush then B&Q do lovely little plastic woven rustic hurdles (6 inches or so high)with spikes to stick them in the ground they would look brill but at a tenner a pop I couldn't justify the expense.

Hi Redwing

That picture was taken the day we moved the run so it was all lovely and clean and fresh! :)

The cover is a clear tarpaulin from

http://www.tarpaflex.co.uk

It's held on with "shock cord ties" which they sell as well.

I am really happy with the tarpaulin, the company was recommended by someone on this forum, can't remember who but am very grateful to them

Just out of interest, what size tarp did you order? Was it the 3m x 2m? I have standard run plus 1 extension so was thinking of the 2m x 2.4m (the smallest i think). i think its nice to have it hanging down the side like yours to stop the wind a bit more. maybe you should be on comission for it - he he he!

how much were the straps to attach it, i couldnt see them on the website.

Hi Peachy 77

Yes I've got the 3m x 2m, I guess you'll find that the 2m x 2.4m will just come a bit further down the sides than mine which I think is no bad thing.

I ended up ordering 100 of the straps as I couldn't see a smaller amount for sale, I think it was about £15 for the 100. I'm happy to send you some of mine if you don't want to order 100 of them.

As for commission I doubt I'd be that lucky!

I bought the 3 x 2.4m tarp for my 3m run and it's the best. I'm really impressed by the quality of it and it looks like it was made for the run, amazing!

I bought 10 of the ball bungees to anchor mine down and they do a great job.

It's so much better than the clear shower curtains I used last year. Thanks again for the recommendation. :D

Well, we put the crinkly lawn edging round the run yesterday - had HD scratting in the shed looking for it.

This morning PP went digging - wood chip and bark flying everywhere - it wasn't quite as bad as before but some was still getting out.

Think I'll have to try something a bit higher. :wall:

Thanks for the offer bigmommasally. Its very kind of you. My husband went out at the weekend and got some acrylic glass for wickes. Its basically a sheet of thin plastic that he drilled holes into and secured on with tie wraps. It isnt as wide as I had hoped, but much better than it was. Will have to see how we go, and may order a tarp at a later date. The acrylic is thinner then the corrigated plastic so makes it a bit easier for sliding the cube roof etc.

so pleased I found this post...I saw that Claret has a shower curtain , pu on her eglu beautifully, really neatly....

and I thought I'd post to see what others have, as I've often seen that people use clear shower curtains, just wasnt sure how they'd look...

I ahve a green taupalin, and the eglu small shade, and I do have a larger green taup waiting to go on, to fill in the gaps...

however the clear taup...seems a much better prospect.....

Loved Aint "Ooops, word censored!"ody Here's set up too.....it looks great...and will keep them wind free and warmer..

We have a wood surround (using gravel boards.,.which to me are just great lumps of wood...which husband kindly installed)

:-D
