Patridge bantam chicken poorly foot?

I keep finding mine all huddled together at the back of the Eglu just after 4pm, when it's really not that dark. I can only assume they are cold - in the summer they would sleep near the Eglu door but now they are as far back from the draught as they can get.

We of course are closing the door on them after dark, so I'm sure they're warm enough then.

 

So, is 4pm-ish normal?

Mine went into the eglu at 4.15 today- can't say I blame them- it was raining really hard and quite cold and dark...

Yep, drizzling here too. Our walk-in run is nice and dry though, unless the rain comes in at 45 degrees. Still not nice weather though.

5 o'clock tonight - but came bounding out again when I tried to close the eglu door... they must have thought I came bearing food!

Mine will stay out a little longer if they are free roaming and I am with them. Around 5.30 today. I've noticed that those lower in the pecking order go in earlier than the bigger top chooks who like to stay eating as long as possible. I am quite anxious to let them out as early as possible now that they don't stay up so late. But I'm not up that early in half term. Rules in our house are that first up let the chickens out of the coop.

I went out at 4.15 today expecting to have to get the last few in the run and they were already in bed arguing over who is going to sleep in the nest!
