Clur
My grandparents live in a small village near Ottery St. Mary and were woken up by people banging on their door at 3am - they had about 3ft of water downstairs and everything is pretty much wrecked. They also had flood defences built a few years back as they were prone to flooding, so this has been particularly bad. Not only has it affected their whole house, the barn is also under water. Gutted for them

chelsea
im sorry too Clur, I can imagine what a state they must be in. Much better weather here today, dry and cold which will help with the clear up.

Valkyrie
Oh Clur, what awful news. As long as they are safe, that's the main thing. I think a barrage of Forum hugs are on their way - here's some from me.
chickencam
Glad you are ok Chelsea, not a good way to start the day. Clur I hope that everyone is rallying round for your Grandparents, what a horrible situation for them. We were staying in a static caravan at Ladram Bay last week fortunately we didn't get the hail but we did get the wind and rain, the caravan wasn't chained down in any way and it rocked around a lot that night ED who was sleeping in the lounge area got hardly any sleep We had visited Otterton Mill at about 2.30pm that day to see them milling and we bought some lovely white bread flour which contrary to what I have said about British flour recently made great bread. It doesn't look like there will be any more for a while though because it is now closed due to severe flooding The staff on the park came round to everyone on Thursday morning to tell us that we we would not be able to leave the park that day because Otterton village was flooded. It must have been bad because when we came home on Friday we drove through the village and you could see debris on the bushes and trees to a height of three feet and the fences and fields were flattened. We kept checking various weather forecasts on the Wednesday evening and even then no one was acknowledging that there was even any rain in the area I will post some photos of the sea when I have downloaded them it was quite a sight and that was when the worst was over.
