4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Dose every body shut the cube or eglu doors.Ive still been leaving mine open a little just enought for them to get out.But as its become colder l wondered what every one else was doing.

I close the eglu door every night here and bring in the food and water. We have enough wildlife in the garden to do our own Autumn Watch, including Rats at the top of the garden , and I dont want to encourage them into the run etc.

We close it every night but if we go away are quite happy to leave it open for the week or fortnight.

I close mine even during the summer but we have foxes which pay regular visits and I prefer the extra security

I close the door every night and 'open up' around 7.30 in the morning. I haven't had cause to leave the door open yet and as the next time we're away is December, I have convinced myself it will be too cold to leave the door open. So I need to sweet-talk my cat-sitter to look after the chooks too, which I don't suppose will be a problem.

I leave mine open, except when its going to snow or have a bad frost. I am also shutting it this week because of fireworks

I close my Eglu door at night without fail since a fox broke into my Eglu run; it was the door being shut that saved them.

 

Mind you I used to leave it open a lot with no problems, and it had advantages.

I'm really concerned that a fox got into someones eglu run. that's surprising and really bad news. I shut my door every night for safety and warmth reasons. I thought they'd be warm enough with it open and that foxes couldn't get in - but now i'm concerned. I also think that one of my chickens is rather pecky at the moment and she's not to bad in the coop so I like to take her out before they go into the run area - so a closed door is necessary for that purpose.

This was a determined fox, it got through electric fence too. Also my run clips may have been weakened by sunshine and moving the Eglu round, if your clips seem strong you should be ok. I strengthened mine with cable ties plus new run clips Omlet kindly sent me.

 

For 2 years before that in Pembrokeshire I had 2 Eglus open at night for ducks and quail, and for another year here I have had 2 Eglus open with ducks and chooks for 8 months until I swapped everything around. Then I went back to the Eglu after the fox got my chooks from behind the electric, and he then broke into the run. Like I say, must be a desperate one.

I always leave the door open - I am too worried that I might forget to open it in my mad rush before work in a morning.

Warm breakfast I'd like to know more but hubby may complain he gets treated worse than chickens if I start on that. Sounds good though especially in winter.

I give them warm porridge in the afternoon when I get home from school around 3:30.

They love it, though it took some persuasion!

I've shut mine tonight because of fireworks, but usually leave it open unless frosty. (My Cube is sited inside a secure & foxproof run).

I've been wondering about precisely this, as we are often away overnight to visit parents at the weekend - and being able to leave the door open would solve that problem nicely
