pencilbeckett
Hi Just wondered if anyone who puts auboise straight onto the grass could tell me whether they clean it up or does it just get absorbed? Not really familiar with the stuff at all really. My Girls are on the farmers field getting muddy i have got some rubber matting (eco mat) and want to put something comfy on top and i know if i use sawdust it will cause a right mess on the field. Was thinking auboise or hay. Sorry if my message rambles on i am very worried about my muddy girls. We have moved from a semi on a main road with a huge enclosed garden where the girls had a barkchipped area and also room to free range. To a cottage on a farm which has no enclosed garden. I am so scared to free range them as they may end up as fox dinner but they look fed up stuck in their run.....oh dear i am off again with the rambling sorry
Egluntyne
You can do both really, although it goes an odd blue colour eventually, on the lower layers as it breaks down, when directly on soil. I put my Eglus on slabs in the end and no longer notice this.
alison
I have had aubiose down on grass for 4 months now. The earth is bare and compacted underneath, probably because it is under cover. I changed the aubiose every six weeks. I have now slabbed my run as I have a rat problem, but I can see that I will need less aubiose. I love the way you can just throw half a bag of the stuff into the pen and the chooks do the rest, straightening it out. They love it! I have not seen it go blue though! Hen Watch
I use Auboise directly onto grass. Or rather I should say bear earth now, since the grass dissappears within a few months if you have the elgu run in the same position. I change it once a month. In summer I move them back and forth from one side to another and I end up with a "landing strip" of bear earth to reseed. But in winter, I just leave them in one position and reseed the grass in Spring. "Landing strip" area where eglu was previous month you can see on the left of pic. miffy
Having read this thread and watched our girls squelch in mud, I have been to Cornwall Farmers and bought our first bale of Auboise, we paid £5.95 plus VAT. Is this a good price?
