C&T
Our 2 chickens have been with us just a month now, and are taking over the garden quite happily. They are eating well, putting on weight, and we are hopeful that we may get some eggs soon and we are enjoying every moment. But. One of them (Ginger the Gingernut) has on and off always had runny pooh, especially in the morning - and usually all over the patio... There is not always any solid pooh at all, but just a large puddle of white liquid. Other times, it is runny pooh. Looking at the forum, I have tried cutting back treats, adding bokashi bran (she loves it!!) yoghurt, and acv in their water - but nothing seems to make a difference. The 'evidence' in the pooh tray in the eglu over night looks OK. Firstly, am I right to worry? or am I worrying unneccessarily... and secondly, has anyone got any suggestions? Could it be worms already, even though they were wormed before they left Omlet HQ? I have no real chicken experience, but father-in-law says they look healthy, and certainly they look happy hopping and running and scratching around the garden... All suggestions welcome! mostin
The only things I can think of to suggest are giving bokashi bran, which you are doing already. Another thing to try may be to cut out the yoghurt. Some chickens can not tolerate dairy and this may be causing the squits. Just an idea but hope it helps? Egluntyne
Garlic powder is useful for firming up poos. I'd be inclined to keep her on pellets and water for a few days. With the bokashi bran added. She may be overdoing it with the vegetation. Some seem more sensitive than others to it. Might be worth worming her too. If she has had the squitts persistently for a few weeks despite your best efforts, it might be worth gathering a sample and asking the vet to have a look at it. C&T
Thanks for the advice. Pellets, Bran and Garlic it is for the next couple of days, and see what happens next...
C&T
And of course getting some worming treatment...
Redwing
If you are feeling up to it someone posted the following link a couple of days back that has pics of chicken poo and what each type of poo means. Happy viewing! http://www.chat.allotment.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=17568
bigmommasally
Wow! Seriously though thanks for that Redwing - it's really reassuring to know that all of my chicken's poos are normal!
C&T
Thanks for that! Vaguely disgusting - but helps! My young chicken has the poo described as that of a thirsty old chicken, cause unknown, but maybe has liver problems... Hmmmmm. Ginger is not drinking excessively at least (or not that I have seen). I think I will follow Eglutines advice and cut out everything and worming her and go from there...
Groovychook
Not sure about my breakfast now but thank you very much redwing! I am an obsessive poo checker (Is there a group out there to help with such a disorder?! ) and I've been worried about a few of those 'normal' droppings... The one showing the worms was especially helpful- I was worried that I might not be able to see them so clearly...
