Helly Welly
Okay, this is a bit but i have had two round areas of sore skin on one of my feet that i'm not sure if they are verrucas or corns. They are sore to walk on and sometimes i can see a black dot in the middle of them. Are they verrucas or corns? I might try the duct tape method, Boots own verruca treatment just peeled off a top layer of skin but did litle else.
Snowy
Ok, I'm going shopping tomorrow for duct tape and a large bottle of wine. Just so that I don't look like a complete muppet, is it coloured silver or impregnated with silver? I have a lovely hardware shop that sells everything you could ever want but they already think I'm a little odd. As far as I know it's just silver in colour. If you don't want them to think you're more than a 'little odd', perhaps keep schtum about using it on veruccas! Bizarre as it may sound - this was recommended to me by my GP and it really does work! You have to exclude air from the wart or verucca for a couple of weeks. ES had a large wart around the base of his thumbnail and this method got rid of it completely. You don't have to use duck tape, any occlusive tape will do (we used green and yellow electricians tape) but it does stick well.
..lay a little egg for me
OK...this is what I understand about veruccas: they are just warts on the sole of the foot. Warts are caused by a virus that infects the skin cells making them multiply. Eventually your immune system develops enough power to kill them off and when it does they just clear up. This is why there are so many old wives tales about curing warts...they kept trying odd treatments and one day the warts fell off anyway but of course those old wives thought it was because of their odd treatments. Most modern treatments aim to kill the infected cells (by freezing or whatever). So the upshot is, that you really don't have to do anything as long as they are not painful. Once your immune system is up to scratch you shouldn't get them again (or at least for a long while). The bazooka etc treatments should be used cautiously because if you are using a lot of it (if you have lots of warts/veruccas) it can cause ringing in the ears Hope this is helpful (and I've got my facts right)! Tina C
Caroline - that is more or less what the doctor told us when Layla had them last year. She said they don't even advise against going swimming now (which was a big no no in my day) as they are 'just' a virus - you get them, they go away and then you will (probably) be immune. Obviously if they are painful you do need to do something though. When I had mine when I was young I remember the treatment (freezing and cutting out) being more painful than the veruccas. The Dogmother
Rosie swims a lot and always seems to have at least one verruca. Bazooka does nothing, nor does Wartner - I have given up as they don't bother her, and hope that her immune system will clear them.
Bassett
My YS has two veruccas at the moment. We tried Bazooka for ages without success and then took him to the GP. He said not to waste money on shop bought verucca treatments as they are completely ineffective. As others have mentioned already, my GP said that unless the veruccas are painful they don't treat them anymore, as the body will clear up the virus in its own time. If the verucca is painful, the GP said all he would do is damage it slightly to assist the body to locate and treat the verucca quicker by itself.
