Layers pellets!

Recommended Posts

Have you bought any pellets recently? The price has shot up in the last few weeks. My pellets (non-organic) now cost £13.95 a sack. (Animal feed is zero VAT-related, so haven't come down at all with the VAT reduction.)

With nine hens and two cockerels, a sack lasts me just over a fortnight, so it is getting an expensive hobby -- certainly not chickenfeed.

I reckon one cockerel eats the same amount of food as four Omlet hens.

Our first lot of layers came from a local pet suppliers - can't remember what brand but they were about £7.50 for 20kg. Friends kept asking why I hadn't chosen organic, the shop just didn't have any. So I went to CountryWide stores yesterday for the next sack. Their organic was £15.99 for 20kg organic layers pellets  and £5.99 for 20kg ordinary  . Needless to say the ladies won't be going organic! Hey, it's non-GM and they get to free range, what more could they want?

Just looked on the CountryWide website and the pellets I've got are £7.59 on there, can't remember how much I paid in store for them, it was a few weeks ago.

Hmmmmmmm just got a sack of small holders, the only other option was their own brand.. the only difference is that small holders are non GM.....

What're our thoughts on the whole GM thing?

In an ideal world mine would have organic and GM free (and so would I and the cat!), but it is more expensive and something that not everyone can afford. If the budget doesn't allow, I don't beat myself up over it - the important bit is that everyone gets fed.

The other point is that our chickens have no ethical point of view and really don't mind! They are happy with whatever tastes nice! :D

I am looking forward to the day that I have the disposable income to put all my ethical views into practice.

Not feeling so good about my cheaper Countrywide layers pellets now - the girls won't entertain eating them! I had mixed them with the last bit of the old pellets so the change over was gradual and they've been picking out the old ones and scattering the new ones on the floor

That was a false economy! This morning they were onto all new CW pellets and refused to eat

So I've been back to the pet shop I went to originally and they're back on Spillers (£7.25 for 20kg) and oh boy are they happy ladies now :dance: !!

So if there's anyone within a 10 mile radius of leamington spa/southam (warks) who wants a free bag of CW pellets (only a little bit missing) please PM me!!!!
