Morning all!

I have been looking at upgrading from a wooden coup to a cube but have decided that I dont think the run that comes with it will be big enough for 6 chooks, I found a good website avaries4u, that has photos of cubes and eglus in their runs, I just wondered if anyone has experiance and how many chooks would be comfertable in the 9ftx6ftx6ft run.

as it is a lot of money with both the run and cube just short of £800, We have already spent nearly £300 with house and run but i dont think it would last that long,

just have to persuade hubby now as that could be a nice little hoilday for us!!:roll:

oh and also would we need planning permission? and If we decided to move how portable are they,?

is there a better solution? our current run is rather ropey made with trelis and is already nearly collapsing was made only 3 months ago by my darling hubby.... unfortunatly he's not the best at practacal things but at least he gave it a go bless!!

I can't answer a lot of your questions but I have seen a lot of comments on the forum praising Aviaries4u. I keep looking at them myself but am going to see if I can get a mate of mine to help instead. Flytesofancy is another one that seems to come recommended.

the Avaries4u run comes as flat panels, so moving them shouldn't be a problem. I would how to attach an EGLU to the outside of a run like the cube does. Also personally I would ask for the 16gauge wire instead of the 19 that comes as standard. but that is just as I know we have foxes around and I am to say neurotic about the foxes would not be an understatement. but the runs are great.

We have a walk in run from Aviaries4U and it is brilliant. You should not need planning permission but you need to check with your local planning office.

Whilst the runs from Aviaries4U do come in panels as stated, you are not going to be able to move this run around the garden! They are well buit and therefore heavy so the only way you'll move it is by taking it apart. This type of run is intended to be permanently sited, probably on a brick base or perhaps slabs/concrete.

We have ours on a course on concrete blocks. Inside we added a 6'' layer of woodchips on the bare earth and fox proofed around the outside. You can see our run in the run inspriation thread. I think the guidelines are 1 bird per metre square, so you would be looking at 6 or 7 birds. Our run is 4mx2.5m and 2m tall. We have 8 birds but could accomodate 10 according to that formula, so it seems about right.

I can not rate Aviaries4U highly enough. Tony will make your run to your exact specifications and since he have built runs for many Omlet owners before, he can suggest really useful features that work with either the cube or eglu. We added a translucent roof which is a God send. The standard wire is not a problem, unless you are really paranoid about foxes and the like (and we have badgers in our garden  ) then there is no need to go for a stronger gauge. Tony's work is superb, really well built. We cannot fault it at all, worth every penny.

Let me know if need to know anything else.

We have a 15 foot by 9 foot run from Flyte so Fancy, we also bought the handles and can just about move it with four of us, one at each corner, which is great for giving the chooks fresh grass. They also do other sizes e.g. 6 by 9 which would be much easier to move I think.

As the run was a bit awkward to move we have just had our builder make us a solid sturdy frame for the bottom so that we can attach a rope and pull it around, a bit like a sledge, which should make life easier.

We have an anti dig mesh skirt around ours plus electric strands, and no fox problems so far (we had a terrible fox prob and lost lots, including from behind wire and also the fox broke into the Eglu run so he was pretty determined)

HTH
