Nigella's Christmas Kitchen.

Recommended Posts

We have just had our first little Christmas get together and Him Indoors (!) made Nigella's Panettone Pudding. (Page 164)

It was absolutely heavenly. Everyone oooh'd and aaaa'd about it.

Well worth trying. We worked out that it cost around £12 to make.

Deffo dinnerpartyworthy.

You should be able to get it anywhere, its on offer at £10 at the moment in the supermarkets, but you could also get it from Amazon I would imagine. Its a fab book, I want to make almost everything in it.

Hope you find it!

I have to say we both found her oozy descriptions and the fancy filming a bit much to take last night :?

We did however make her maple pecans from the express book at the weekend, we felt that the nuts needed to be roasted for about 10 minutes after the syrup etc had been mixed in because they were too liquid. They are really lovely. We also used mixed nuts instead of just pecans.

i've watched her before and thought she was ok but also found her too sickly last night and turned over after writing down the soup recipe

I like her approach to cooking but I do find her a bit simpering on tv. I steeled myself and have watched the first two. I must make the mincemeat & mincepies as my boys love mincepies and hers are probably slightly less calorie laden.

I wonder where she got that lovely cake tin on tonights show...

Here you go Poet :)

Chilli Jam

makes approx. 1.5 L

150 g long fresh red chillis, each deseeded and cut into 4 pieces

150 g red pepper, cored, deseeded and cut into rough chunks

1 kg jam sugar

600 mL cider vinegar

6 x 250 mL jars with vinegar-proof lids

Sterilise jars and leave to cool.

Put the chillis in a food processor and pulse until they are finely chopped. Add red pepper and repeat.

Dissolve the sugar in the vinegar in a wide, medium-sized pan over a low heat without stirring.

S"Ooops, word censored!"e the chilli/pepper mixture into the pan. Bring to the boil and leave it at a rollicking boil for 10 minutes.

Take the pan off the heat and allow it to cool. The liquid will become more syrupy, then from syrup to viscous to jelly-like as it cools.

After about 40 minutes, or once the red flecks are more or less evenly distributed in the jelly (as the liquid firms up, the bits of chilli and pepper start being suspended in it rather than floating on it), ladle into your jars. If you want to stir gently at this stage it will do no harm. Then seal tightly.

Store in a cool, dark place for up to 1 year. Once opened, store in the fridge and use within 1 month.

I missed Monday's episode but we all sat down to watch it last night and wondered if the production staff had run out of money as it was so dark we could hardly see what she was cooking!

The little Christmas pudding things looked lovely and I must admit I am quite tempted to get the book.

I love the recipes but cannot bear her gushy style, it is just soooo over the top! And so smug too, all that preparing the cheesy pudding thing the night before. And those people are all actors, not chums, according to an article I read about the filming of the series.

I couldn't stop laughing at her last night- especially when she went into that coffee shop to order espressos wearing those pink tinted glasses as she had "overindulged" with cocktails the night before.

Then when she took off the glasses she looked perfectly made up- no bleary bloodshot eyes etc etc-

If that's a hangover I'll eat my hat!

and when she was prancing around in the dark in the middle of the night preparing for the next day's "brunch"- soooo funny.

But I do want one of those mountain style cake tins though 8)
