I'm dreaming of a retro Christmas!

What goes into a 'snowball' :?:

Pickled onions with green dots; I just eat 'em anyway

The reference to 'Eat Me' dates made me a bit nostalgic, it took me back about 35 years to childhood Christmases past, in our old Council House. The house would be decked out in cheap, tacky, trimmings bought from Highbridge Market, with a REAL tree groaning under the weight of plastic baubles (some faded and flaking the paint, lol) tinsel and chocolates, a bowl of nuts by the fireplace but no nutcrackers; we used a HUGE old gun shell to whack the nuts with  and a pack of Eat Me dates on the sideboard.

The excitement of Christmas was simply amazing. My parents worked very hard to make Christmas magical and special. I must let them know that even now thats how I remember them to have been.

I completely agree, when I think back to my Christmas as a child my mum used to make it amazing. I think thats why Christmas doesnt feel so good now. I dont have kids, but my sister doesnt make the effort with her children like my mum did with us. :(

I think its good to keep up traditions, we all have stockings the kids 22,19and 17 have them and now their older they do one each for me and hubby :D

We make our own traditions though as daft as they are, the chocolate fountain for xmas tea and the kids want certain things for xmas dinner every year lol this year i filled the crackers with daft things for each person

Its easy to get a little bored with it all now the kids are older and no small relatives locally but i try to keep it fun like 8 of us playing Buzz xmas evening rather than sit infront of tv or napping lol

My Mum always used to have a bottle of "Seager's Egg Flip" on the go at Christmas. I would love to find some for her. She tolerates Advocaat, but it's not the same (apparantly).

For my brothers and me, it wasn't Christmas without her having a glass of it in her hand. Don't get me wrong she hardly ever drinks at any other time, just Christmas Day really.

Any ideas where I could get some?
