ali-s
I am trying to knit a pair of socks however I am confused over the rib The first rib row is fine, the normal knit one, purl one. The next row the instructions say to p1b - purl 1 stitch together with stitch in row below. I have photo instructions to help me but I can't get it right So, can any one tell me if it is ok to just carry on and do a normal knit one, purl one rib? Will it make any difference to the finished sock? I have spent most of the afternoon on this and I have done one row of rib I finished my first pair of socks this morning and they are so comfy and stripey
Couperwife
I have only started one sock, (I cant get past the heel ) if I remember right you knit (purl) 2 stitches together to join it in the round there are some expert sock knitters on here though im sure that someone will be here to help soon cathy x
ali-s
The socks are knitted on 2 normal needles. The first pair (different pattern) were a doddle to knit and look just like the real thing
Trish
Ali - p1b is a way of making a fancy rib, if I'm understanding your pattern. Therefore if you'd rather do a standard rib it won't make much difference to the finished sock. It might change the length of the rib a bit if it's worked over a set number of rows but you can change the number of rows if you want to. Cathy- if you ever want help with that heel then please get in touch, I've knit hundreds of them.
Couperwife
triiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh can I get help with that heel please I live about an hour away I may be visiting you (I can bring cake!!) thank you cathy x
ali-s
Thanks Trish Normal rib it is then. There are only five rows in the rib so it will not make much difference. I can't knit socks using DPNS, I have tried but kept leaving 3 of the needles behind and just knitting on two of them My next project after I have knitted a few pairs on two needles is to try and knit socks on a circular needle using the magic loop method. Trish
Alison have a go at the circular needles method, if it's the same one I use, using two circular needles, then I think nit is so much easier and your work can never fall off your needles. Happy knitting
