smanners
I contacted one of the BHWT co-ordinators today and I'm collecting 3 Ex Batts tomorrow. I was so inspired by some of the recovery stories and the before and after photos that I decided to go for it. I've had an empty eglu waiting for spring as I fancied some blue egg layers but felt I would rather give some needy hens the chance of freedom a life that they deserve. I know they'll need lots of TLC for a while and this cold wintery spell will be a challenge but at least 3 more girls will be saved from a worse fate. I may still get some more anyway in spring when everyone has settled in but don't tell OH

smanners
Well got them back safely and they are in Eglu in the kitchen! ( too cold tonight to go straight outside) They are a bit ovenready in places but otherwise not too bad. The first lady we spoke to wasn't too impressed re Eglu and felt they were too small for 3 chooks but as we collected them the next lady told the chooks that they were lucky to be going to such a posh home! They've eaten their mash and drunk this pm and had a little boiled, mashed cabbage and apple. They have had a few spats already but are now snuggled up together in bed! I guess tomorrow it's a case of plenty of food/water stations and some distractions and for me ................a suitably placed chair and lots of chicken watching time
