I want one of these

Recommended Posts

One of my girls likes to warm her feet in the morning in the nice fresh warm water!! I find the glug too much trouble to move in and out all the time, so I've got a 'mushroom' drinker, plus a big heavy plant saucer which I fill with warm water - and she definitely likes a paddle in that!!! Will hopefully stop that when the freezing weather ends.

Does your girl manage to wade in a 'mushroom'?! :D

I use one of these at the moment. I refil the Glug everymorning with warmish water, then after a couple of hours I activate the handwarmer and pop it in. Then at night, I empty the glug out, remove the gel pad and re-activate it by boiling, ready for the next day.

It seems to be working okish as it keeps one side of the glug free from ice, may get a second one for the other side.

No, I need one of these

very badly....Wouldn't you think some clever British person would make them (and sell them on Omlet)?

I bought one of these............it didn't work and the water froze solid the very first night I used it cracking the plastic  Luckily when I returned it the clerk gave me a credit towards a galvinized steel one with a heated base (platform thingy). The only problem I have with the galvinized steel is I can't put ACV in the water.

Some great ideas here, thanks - keep em coming! I'm very interested in the rechargeable handwarmer idea.

OH is currently experimenting with his old propagator and a very looooong extension lead - I'll let you know how it goes. It's been below 0 here since well before dark :(

that is intersting, is he cjecking temperatures. the petsafe seems to be doing a grad job in the empty Eglu  the 2 girls are cosy spoilt in 10 degree bathroom :D

How about one of these? https://www.chicken-house.co.uk/acatalog/Poultry_Drinker.html

I haven't tried it - have spend enough in the last month on my new friends!

Thanks for this link Happy chickens, I ordered one on Saturday evening and it arrived today. I'll let you all know how I get on with it.

Meanwhile, my husband has run a loooong extension lead down to Hensington Palace and plugged in his old propagator base. The drinker is sitting in the propagator, and it remained ice free overnight and today. The temperature went down to -6 here last night, so, that seems to work - although I don't know how easily the hens can access the drinker while it's in there :? I think the new thingy will be better.

You could just fill a small water bottle or old squash bottle with boiling water and pop that into the glug, it would save a few pounds and boiling up the warmers to re-charge them every day too.

Love the idea of the heated drinker or heated pad. So far the glug hasn't frozen too badly in the day time with any lucky the cold snap will be over soon  >
