Recommended Posts

Laurie is still in New York but I will speak for her and me, that we will be there at 2pm to test those cakes :D .

we're on the 1pm course so won't finish til about 3pm I should think, probably too late to join in.

I'm sure we'll still be there Poet. We'll be on a second round of cake by then  .

hello all from Boston! ( how sad are Claret and I? )

I don't think Mostin and I are going anywhere until we've caught up with everybody... will we mostin? After all, there will be a few cakes to try out to ensure that Egluntine's quality control is up to scratch. And I must ask Poet about her new pup - as seen on facebook (and here probably but i haven't been able to catch up much).

Patricia - thanks for the information about the course you attended, although I did gulp when I read "splatter":anxious: I have an unholy image of a group of omleteers walking about in gore-splashed pinnies with feathers in our hair!

Mark - are you out there? I hope you are enjoying this glorious weather we've had the last few days on Plum Island! I'm happy to tell the rest of you that it's in the 20s here with blue skies and puffy white clouds: a beautiful English summer's day, actually!

Exactly what I was thinking Laurie :clap::lol: . Every time I have a "quick cuppa" at your house it turns into at least 4 hours of chatting so I am sure we will still be in the cafe chatting when the ones on the later courses turn up :lol: .

Hope your managing to have a nice time out there, see you soon. Ooooh and I forgot to tell you, I am getting 4 ex-batts from the rescue you are helping with. I am picking them up 3 weeks today :dance::dance::dance: .

We went to see Alison on Thursday, as we'd had to miss our course last Sunday.

We had ordered some hens which Alison had kept for us and she very kindly agreed to give us a very quick lesson in gutting and boning while we were there :D It ended up as a really quick course as we were a little late after a road closure and diversion shortly before we reached Alison's house.

It was really interesting to see what you don't learn from a book! I had boned a turkey the Christmas before last but had to follow directions I found online. It was much better to be shown how to do it properly!

You'll all have a wonderful time! :D

Tables booked at the cafe from 2pm.

The owner said she could pre prepare sandwiches salads etc at a price per head if we wished, but I said I'd let her know. What do you think. I think we'd be better ordering off the menus we might not all fancy sandwiches and the first wave might scoff it all before the late comers arrive. :D

She is famed for the beef stew and Yorkshire pudding.....If there were likely to be a lot of takers for that, she asked if I could let her know.

Oh dear :(:( I have had to email Alison to cancel my place.

My husband goes into hospital on the 23rd to have a long-standing problem with his nose fixed. It was broken as a lad and he is finding it increasingly difficult to breathe at night resulting in the most appalling snoring at times.

He will, no doubt bleed, drip and complain for the first few days and generally be unable to cope.

I was so looking forward to the course, meeting fellow omleteers and some excellent post course black pudding.

I am booked on the 11am slot if anybody has the chance to go.

I need to get myself organised & work out a route to the course.

This is the way I would do it from your end. :D

Find your way to Stockport via the motorway then take the A6 to Hazel Grove.

Follow signs to Buxton. Through Disley, Furness Vale, along the Chapel en Le Frith bypass, over 2 roundabouts, signposted Buxton, continue along A6.

Continue for about 2 miles then take a left turn at roundabout onto the A623 signposted Sheffield and Chesterfield, continue another couple of miles then sharp right at the top of the hill ( Village called Sparrowpit).

Continue for about 10 miles….up hill and down dale… through Stoney Middleton, then left at crossroads onto A625. There is a right turn marked Sheffield 250 yards on right. IGNORE THIS.

Continue forward through Grindleford on B6001 about 5 miles. At the T junction turn right onto A 6187 then almost immediately left at Fox House (pub) .

Straight run then into Sheffield. You are now on Hathersage Road, which as you get into the built up area becomes Ecclesall Road South. Look out for Parkhead Cricket Club on right at junction, and Toby Carvery immediately beside it.

Newsagent) on left, then first left onto Bents Road as shown on map already posted. As you turn onto Bents Road, look at the road sign and see what the local wags have changed it to. :? Or avert your eyes if you are of a nervous disposition.

I would avoid the M1 from the North as it brings you onto the wrong side of town.

You could come over the Snake and then turn right at Ladybower, follow signs to Bamford then Hathersage, then turn left at Fox House and continue as above.

Thank you Egluntine :D

I will pass the information onto my chaffeur :D

You are welcome Jules. :D

Here are some directions for those heading north.

Come off the M1 at J 29. Take 2nd Exit at top of slip road onto A 617.

At large roundabout take 3rd exit onto A 61

Look out for Twisted Spire on left. :D

Stay on this road, crossing 2 roundabouts, following signs for Sheffield, onto the Dronfield Bypass. 2nd roundabout has Fiat garage and James Cycles adjacent to it.

At the end of the bypass go across roundabout into built up area. Travel Lodge on right. Go over next roundabout, (Gilders Garage, Meadowhead School and Norton pub adjacent to it) staying on A61.

Carry on down the hill, past Morrisons, Catholic church on left, and when you come to some shops, turn left onto Abbey Lane.

Carry on down Abbey Lane, over a roundabout, across the traffic lights and up the hill through Ecclesall woods.

Now for the tricky bit. :D

There are 2 right turns just past Ecclesall Saw Mills on the left, separated by just a few yards. Take the second one, which is in fact the continuation of Abbey Lane.

Carry on, past the Rising Sun pub on the left, and turn right at the lights. Parkhead Cricket Club and the Toby Carvery on the right. Take the first turn on the left after the newsagents onto Bent Road, as per first map I posted.

I don't know if anyone else was wondering about knives, but I just emailed Alison to ask her what I would need to buy (since mine are all rubbish) and she said she will have boning knives with her to sell at a discount. Fab :D

Oh good. :D Mine are not up to much.
