omlet chickens - are there only two breeds

Recommended Posts

My chickens were killed by a fox over New Year so we have have just ordered a cube.

If I also order the chickens from omlet is it only the two different breeds I can get as I was wanting 6 but would prefer a mix.

How do people find the two hens that they do offer?

We bought an eglu with two chickens from Omlet, one of each. We then added two differnet breeds a week or so later, I would recommend getting them the same day to make intro easier.

Now waiting for the spring to build (I mean have built  ) a walk in run so that I can use our cube and then buy more chickens, don't tell OH about more chickens

As a newbie to chicken keeping, we got "one of each" from Omlet, and while we have nothing to compare them too, they are both lovely birds.

Ginger ( GNR ) is very friendly. She comes running to the door as soon as she hears it opening, and for as long as you are outside, she is next to you, beak into everything! It is amazing how much longer jobs take when Ginger is helping you...! Fred ( PP ) whille not quite so friendly, will always come over to say hello, and is also happy to be "handled".

They also both lay pretty much everyday - even in the winter.

So depending what you want, they are pretty good all round birds - they have my heart anyway!!

Lovely. :D I find the Gingernut Rangers friendlier than the Pepperpots though.

All good layers.

Perhaps you could source some different chickens elsewhere and arrange to put them in the cube at the same time.

I also find the Gingernuts friendlier, but the Pepperpots I think are tougher and cope with extreme weather conditions better. In spite of being a little more stand-offish they are real characters and make me laugh a lot.
