miffy
My kitchen sink drain is begining to smell. We have a septic tank and are very careful about not putting fat/food down the drain, we use "green" and non bio products for washing clothes and dishes, also for cleaning. But I dont know what to use for the drains, tried boiling water and wasshing powder doesnt help. Can anyone help??? .....please.....please........... ....please
Christian
Spooky that you should post this now. Our kitchen skin has just blocked I removed as much water as possible, then tipped a whole pot of bicarbonate of soda down the sink, followed by a bottle of cheap vinegar. Stand back as it bubbles and fizzes, but did the trick. Bicarb also neutralises odours so it might work for you?
Yorkshire Pudding
I was about to suggest the same thing, it can't do any harm and should give the drain a good blast out. Is washing soda suitable for septic tanks? If so that is another good way to blast out a drain - I give mine a regular dose and put it through the dishwasher and washing machine too to avoid clogs and smells. It works a treat. chelsea
I've heard coca cola works cleaning drains.....whether that is right I dont know!
Chook n Boo Mum
I've heard coca cola works cleaning drains.....whether that is right I dont know! I know it cleans coins, cleans toilets and dissolves teeth ....... so a little matter of a smelly drain should be no problem ! I use a goodly dose of washing soda crystals & hot water from the tap as DH is terrified of boiling water splitting a pipe under the sink , this usually clears any pongs. We also have a septic tank & I think it is ok to use. Sha x
Lesley
I use regular, small, doses of washing soda and dribble boiling water over them and our bio-digester seems to cope with that. Too much of anything may upset it so I try to do it once a week.

Snowy
I now have a very clean, non smelly sink and drain I though the sink was blocked (always a possibility with children around) so have used copious amounts of soda crystals, hot water and white vinegar in various combinations, with a plunger, to try to clear it. Only to find it was the sewerage drain outside that was blocked Hired some drain rods and sent OH down the hole ( ) and all is now clear again. And the sink smells lovely
Lesley
I use regular, small, doses of washing soda and dribble boiling water over them and our bio-digester seems to cope with that. Too much of anything may upset it so I try to do it once a week. whats a bio-digester? A posh septic tank It has a pump which aerates all the 'liquid' in the tank so that it works very efficiently! It was already installed when we moved here - apparently, the pump only costs pence to run. Google will give you lots of information - perhaps after breakfast though? Trish
a mix of bicarb and salt down the plughole followed by vinegar works well for us. The salt acts as a scourer on it's way out
