The Hogwarts girls pull it off!

omg - and you have had your hens for ages ??

They're on winter strike, first the moulted, then the days got short so they don't get enough daylight hours in which to lay eggs. When the days get longer they'll start to lay again, but for now we aren't getting a single one. They aren't very happy either because of the weather and hide under the beech hedge.:roll:

omg - and you have had your hens for ages ?? Mine only came 16 dec, but I am already fed up with inspecting the nesting box and finding only poo in it.....

It will happen Phoebe, do you know how old your girls are? My 4 newest girls are about 26 weeks and one has just started to lay this week. The signs are there for more activity soon. If your girls aren't yet over 20 weeks at this time of year it may take them a bit longer to start. Its so worth the wait though :D

no idea. they came from Omlet and man said one looked ready to lay, so I 'spose I got over excited.

My son did say that his chickens at school have bigger "things on top of head" (name escapes me) and waffles though, so perhaps I have a while to wait.

I think the Omlet girls are usually 16 to 20 weeks old so you may have a bit of a wait yet. Their combs and wattles get bigger and redder as they mature into egg laying age so keep an eye out for the change. With some of mine this has happened nearly over night!
