Will they ever lay?

Recommended Posts

We had four new girls October 2nd when our lilac cube arrived -

2 from Omlet, 2 from a local breeder we've used before.

They've yet to lay. Two of our black rocks stopped laying at the same time,

but they've been moulting. Two of our girls, a ginger and a black rock, have

barely had a day off all through winter! They've got a really good diet, we've

checked them over - their poos look fine. What could it be?

Is this normal? They all seem healthy, happy girls otherwise.

It's just that time of year I'm afraid, short days and chilly too. How are their combs and wattles looking? Any sign of a crouch yet?

I had 4 new girls at the beginning of September and they've only just come into lay.

I wouldn't worry too much. Spring is on it's way!

Do they free-range? If so might be worth checking the garden to see if they have found alternative nesting spots.

Sylvie went off lay while broody and then moulting so we were letting them out after the other two had laid. On Saturday OH found three (frozen) eggs in the flower bed so all confined to barracks now until they've 'performed'.

They do free range, but we've scoured the garden and can't find any eggs.

They get layers pellets all day, then veg peelings later on (not always though).

The funny thing is, our two chickens who eat get most treats, as they are at the top

of the pecking order, are the only two laying!:roll::?:

They don't get grass either by the way - there's none left!!!:shock::shock:
