Should I feel offended

Recommended Posts

I have been cooking since I was 12 years old. Mum started working long hours so I took on the cooking responsibilities. That's more than 25 years ago. On occasions I have cooked for 30+ guests and most have complemented me on my food. I regularly have dinner parties and cook quite adventurous food. I have done several courses and take a real pride in my cooking.

Today my 4 year old, who has been at full time school for a total of 1 week, told me school meals were far nicer than my cooking. I am devastated. I quit, its micro meals from now on.

oh gosh no, you shouldn't be offended! Children don't have highly developed taste buds and prefer much plainer food than adults. I used to complain about my mum's cooking when I was little but as I got older, I began to appreciate what a great cook she was!

Take it on the chin, when the little one grows up, they'll realise what they've been missing ;)

I would say it's the novelty of having school meals

I wouldn't worry - and at least you know he's always eaten well and will be happy eating his school dinners as well.

The tales I hear from my two grandchildren about how many children s"Ooops, word censored!"e their entire dinner into the bin  Apparently they are actively encouraged to have good portions of veg etc. on their plates but no-one is allowed to make them eat it now :?

My eldest tried food at school I could never get her to try here, and I did all the freezing of ice cube sized portions of home cooked butternut squash, we don't have ping meals here the whole works, but she's told me school meatballs are "much nicer" than the ones I dish up etc etc! The good thing is I know she's eating well at lunchtime and that makes me happy, plus our school has a fab homemade policy and I think all the meat is free range, chips are once a week I'm really happy with what she gets and if there's ever anything she doesnt like there's always jacket potatoes and if she doesn't like the pud there's always fruit. Plus they get two fresh fruit breaks a day and milk at break time.

Kids just know how to really stick the knife in!!:lol:

Don't be.

My DS always preferred white sliced bread to my home made sort, when I used a breadmaker but now I use my Kenwood to mix it and bake it in conventional rather than fan oven and have worked out how to make white bread with really dark crunchy crusts I have finally won him over, but he still likes white sliced when we are on holiday, as does OH.

I think the meals have improved over the years(just trying to make myself feel better.)

I've always fed the kids the same food as us, chilli, curry, pasta lots of fresh veg. He probably enjoys not being made to eat his school lunch. Looking at the menu it all looks quite healthy but also quite plain.

Can someone remind me what Gypsy Tart is. It seems really familiar but I can't think what it is. I used to love Cannon Balls & Custard but none of my friends remember it.
