Jemma
Hi all, Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place. Long shot, but two of our chickens have been stolen, one is completely black and the other is brown/red with a bit of white around her neck. They are both hybrids so not worth anything moneywise. We are in the Great Shelford (Cambridge) area. If anyone has any information I'd be really grateful. Thanks, Jemma

Jemma
Thanks for all the kind words. I haven't reported it to the police yet, I was hoping they might turn up by their bedtime tonight, but no such luck I'll report it tomorrow. Jemma
Hi, cirmumstances are these... we went away for one night (sat-sun). We don't have an Eglu, but a fully enclosed run and house with an automatic pop-hole opener that opens and closes dependent on daylight. When we got back yesterday the run was completely secure but two (of five) chickens have diappeared without trace. There are no holes big enough for a fox to have got in, no feathers in the run or house and the other three chickens are completely fine. I don't really think there's any way anything other than them being taken could have happened. Jemma
Chook n Boo Mum
Jemma, I'm sorry to hear about your girls. I hope the outcome is happy , although your last post doesn't make good reading. {{hugs}} Sha & my chooks
cherryblossom
Did they turn up at all? That does sound odd. What did the police say? I used to live in Sawston (but in Australia now), it is a small world. Where do you get the doors which open and close automatically? They sound great. Good luck. Hopefully they turn up. Jemma
Hi, I'm afraid they've not turned up I've got an ad in the local free papers this week so maybe that will turn something up. The police just took the details, I didn't really expect them to be able to find them but thought it was useful to let them know in case there's a spate of chicken-thefts. The automatic pophole openers are fantastic, quite expensive (not much change out of £100) but very reliable and worth every penny. Means the girls can get into their run when it gets light in summer without me having to get out of bed! You can also get timers so you can determine the time you want them let out. Unfortuately there's no way to use one with an Eglu (as far as I am aware) so that was my main reason for not getting one. You can get them here: http://www.chicken-house.co.uk/acatalog/Automatic_Door_Openers.html Will let everyone know if I get any news, Jemma

GillC
How awful for you Jemma. Like others, I live nearby. It seems incomprehensible why somebody would steal chickens, and if they did, why only those two? I hope the mystery is solved soon, and that you get your girls back. madchickenlady
So sorry Jemma I think we all worry about the two legged fox I hope that someone has an attack of conscience and returns your girls safe and well.
Jemma
Hi, if you look at the date, this actually happened a year ago. Unfortunately we never did get our chickens back but we did gain three new ones after I put an ad in the paper looking for them. One was found wandering around an estate and someone though it might be one of ours and someone else had two that they were trying to rehome. Thankfully no more have been taken since. Thanks for all your concern Jemma xx
