kez
Hurrah!!!! It arrived this morning from Aviaries4u. In several bits at the moment. Hoping to get it put up at the weekend. My DH took delivery this morning, I'm at work. I want to see it - NOW I don't think I got this excited when the shed arrived Edited January 26, 2009 by Guest
BarbaraJ
Ohh cool don't they put it up for you or does it cost more? are you after more chickens?
Olly
Photos, please, and tell us how easy it is to put together! I'm thinking of ordering one from them, if it ever stops raining long enough for me to get up and measure the part of the garden where I want it to go. Madbird
Piccies pleaese Kez! (when its up and finished of course! lol) Just realised you are not too far from me -I'm in Leamington Spa
jills
Let us know how you get on putting it up. I'm seriously thinking of getting one, I need to do something if I'm to have any garden left by Spring. I only have 3 hens in about a quarter of an acre - how can they possibly make so much mess?? Summer was fine as everything regrows. The problem is I am completely useless at DIY - one of the reasons for getting a cube in the first place, so I need to buy something that's easy to put up. What about the base, are you putting it on grass or have you laid some slabs?
sandyhas3chucks
Easy to put up. needs 2 when you start putting ends on! 9ft x 4ft 6 . approx 4 hours. needed to drill some lead holes a bit more. We also bought some bolts for all doors
kez
My husband has just rung me at work - he's put it up on his own and he only has one arm. Took him less than 3 hrs DH had layed 24 slabs for it to sit on. Fits on perfect. 2.5m x 1.5m The only thing wrong is the table that Tony built is too low for hatch. I need to see it myself though before I email him. Just in case DH has done something wrong. BarbaraJ - he can put it up but to be honest it's so easy to do it's not worth the extra money. I have my grass seed ready to put on the mud pit as we have not a single blade of grass anymore I want 2 more chooks in the spring. Only problem is I was going to get them from Warwickshire Rare breeds farm, but it's just closed down. Does anyone know of anywhere else not too far away from Rugby that sells hybrids? It will be dark when I get home so will get piccs at the weekend. Madbird - yeah I'm 17 miles away from the Parade in Leamington Spa. We'll have to have a meet! Hi Kez, Give Chris @ Pear Tree a call - lovely man. He specialises in pure breeds, but he also keeps a flock of Brown Warren Hybrid layers. We got a mix of both on our first trip to him. He also has some interesting 'crosses' as fallout from his breeding programmes If you want more interesting/colourful hybrid birds, you could check out Merrydale Poultry, Leicestershire. Good luck! moomin
When the weather gets better I'll take some photos of mine, I have an Aviaries4U run and can highly recommend them. But at the moment it's draped in tarpaulins and stuff to keep this rubbish rain out I painted mine, a lovely sage green colour. It took me 3 weeks to paint it 'cos of having to use a small brush to get the paint through the weldmesh without getting too much on the mesh! Not a good idea but it looked really nice in the end and merges with the plants
kez
Finally got some pictures. Got to add the corrogated roof, a few finishing touches and of course the Eglu. Hopefully they girls will move in at the weekend.
Redwing
Peartree Farm is in my village! it is very highly regarded locally. About another two miles down the A5 towards Towcester is the Bell Plantation which is a garden centre that sells hybrids, they have Columbines (which are a hybrid that has a high possibility of laying blue or green eggs) and others too - about five or six types. MedusA
The run looks great, Kez. I was shocked to hear that Warwickshire Rare Breeds has closed down as I got two of my girls from her. I am going to check out Merrydale next time I go on a chook-hunt.
