elpolloloco!
hi we want to make a new walk in run as our chickens have now realised that they can jump straight over the 5ft omlet netting (wings clipped, extra height added and all! ) after a previous post i have been looking at the aviary mesh stuff from the hills of devon website thingy. BUT i am now confused as to what size mesh to use, cos the 1/2 " x 1/2 " looks a bit too small and is most expensive. was thinking bout the 1/2" x 1" stuff HELP NEEDED!!! thanx for the advice
sandyhas3chucks
i think it is 1" square. 16 gauge . someone will com along and either confirm or put right. Got mine from Hills of Devon.

sandyhas3chucks
From Avaries4u website I use for these runs is 1" x 1" 19 gauge welded mesh. If making yourself it costs pence diference to get 16 gauge from Hills of Devon. it's thicker

atsw
This web-page has a table showing the gauge size against the actual diameter in mm. In summary, 19 Gauge is 1mm diameter, 16 gauge is 1.6mm diameter. The page also shows the different types of uses to which the various weld mesh is commonly used. Hope this helps. quickcluck
Redwing, how is it holding up? No damage from foxy loxy??
Redwing
No damage at all.....of course that could be because its still in the package it arrived in........ I plan to double layer it at the bottom of the run with overlaid gravel boards to hold the bedding in and also add strengthening wooden bars about a foot up from that and again at three feet just to ensure the mesh is nice and tight

quickcluck
I agree. I think we have worked out what it will look like, how much mesh is needed and where it will come from. How we are looking at the wood. Can I ask what you are using for roofing?
