SAB
Just wondering if it would be okay to use old soup/bean cans to grow herbs in - not sure if there are any "nasties" in the cans that would be problematic. Anyone know?
Saronne
Recycling cans is a really good idea. I've seen them used for herb and veg growing on the continent. Never heard of lurking nasties, etc. Just make sure you punch a few holes in the bottom for drainage. SAB
Thanks - I thought that it would be fine, then my OH said "are you sure it's safe" and that left me puzzled (though he knows nothing of gardening!). Anyway, I think there will be a few Heinz tomato soup and baked beans cans added to my kitchen window soon!

Egluntyne
If they are the huge cans, they ca look very very attractive with plants growing in them. My friend had red geraniums growing in cans on her patio last summer, they looked lovely. Just was then thoroughly and stab them a few times as has been said. Chook n Boo Mum
I've still got all the cans I used for my diddy Christmas cakes, I can recycle them again Sha x
craftyhunnypie
What a lovely idea! I think I'm going to use Eglutines idea of Geraniums in them & also make two holes to thread some wire through, so I can hang them off some tree branches - out of the way of hungry chickens! surferdog
Apparently you can also paint them with emulsion paint so can have colour coordinated ones as well as the silver.
