buffie
Just saw this LONDON (Reuters) - Feeling grumpy? Well, today is the day couples are most likely to have an argument, according to a relationship expert. The theory is that post-holiday blues combined with the end of the summer and no more bank holidays until Christmas conspire together to make August 30 the day tempers will fray. Paula Hall, a sexual and relationship psychotherapist, said the arguments can be explained by a simple equation: Post-Holiday Depression + Financial Strains - Lack of Light/Domestic Chaos = Relationship Stress. "By August 30, tensions have reached an all time high, as couples realise their summer is well and truly over," Hall said. "This often manifests itself in bickering and needless arguments which is not healthy for the well-being of a relationship." Also from the first of September , if you suffer from S.A.D (seasonal affective disorder) you can use light therapy to make the winter blues less of a problem. You need to start in Sept to feel the full benefit's later on. I have my light ready for me and my clients! I also use a lumie bodyclock in the morning to wake up. I just end up sleeping all winter, as I've been awake all summer! Definitely not ideal!

buffie
The Lumie body clock (google it) is an alarm clock but it uses a daylight lamp to wake you up over half and hour. You set your wake up time and it slowly lights up and as the light hits your retina (you are still asleep) it preparees the body for waking, just as a sunny morning does. It helped me so much last winter and I use a large therapy room sized lamp to read by for 20 mins a day (I will start this on friday) You can get small lamps also. Laura & CTB
Just ordered mine - thanx for the reminder Buffie. I've been promising myself one all last year as I have to have blackout curtains to be able to get to sleep in the first place but then it's a real struggle waking up in the mornings when it's still pitch black! You can get them for under £60.00 with free delivery on line and also more flashy models costing under £100 BBx
Lesley
We just leave the blackout blind up at the moment - unless we decide to have a lie in until 8am. I think we'll buy one ready for the darker mornings though.
theherd123
Off to have a look at one now as getting up is always a struggle - think its because i spend most of the night awake!
buffie
If you get an increase in appetite and feel tired or just 'can't be bothered' that's a classic set of symptoms even dread of winter or the dark and the damp. It's a real probelm for some and I was really awful 2 years ago I couldn't start my day until 11am and wanted to finishat 4pm as I was worn out and pretty down. Good news is that the light therapy has worked so I am really enjoying the thought of autumn this year! BBx
theherd123
Buff do you need 1 per room or one on each side of the bed?
buffie
Well we have 1 by me and Mikey still can see it. I would suggest a small lamp type therapy lamp to read by too as this will add the the effectiveness. Having said that the bodyclock on it's own will help. Exciting news about Jimmy's posted! Lesley
Thanks Buff That's just cost me another £XX Carl very rarely goes - but he will tonight - I had to use his card as it spat mine out That means I've reached the limit on mine and it doesn't clear down until 5 Sept We need to get up early to feed all the animals so it will be so useful on dark mornings. I'm looking forward to it being delivered. I definitely don't suffer from SAD - but I hate dark mornings.

Karen & co.
The body clock definately seems worth a try, on sunny days I sometimes don't think about eating unless feeding the children, in winter I scour the cupboards looking for calories in any form preferably brown and sweet! but a plate of hot buttery mash just hits the nail on the head karen x
theherd123
8 am is a lie-in Lesley i forbid you to talk to my OH about lie ins!!! He does not need anyone to side with him!! buffie
well since the girls arrived I get up at 6.45 every day :shock I do sometimes go back for an hour but generally stay up and potter about. Wonder how it'll be when it is dark in the morning again. I'll be sitting with my lamp on Hope you all had an argument free day BBx
Linda
in winter I scour the cupboards looking for calories in any form preferably brown and sweet! but a plate of hot buttery mash just hits the nail on the head karen x Karen, I'm certainly with you on the mash front!! I've even been known to make some just for myself for lunch/supper/hangover cure/when I can't face anything else! Always hits the spot. I think eating it on its own just reminds me how great potatoes taste. Unfortunately, they can be taken for granted. Lets hear it for spuds!! The Dogmother
Me too, but I think that a bowl of porridge beats mash. Made with semi-scummed organic milk, organic oats, some raisins and topped with a sprinkle of muscovado sugar - YUM!
