Guess what I found in my garden this afternoon?

Recommended Posts

I'd been out shopping and came back to find a (cube purple)

Came a day early!

I've managed to put it together BY MYSELF in just over an hour! If I hadn't put the wheels onto the base back to front then I'd have done it in less than an hour.

There are definetly big gaps which I'm a bit concerned about. When you stand at the back of the cube you can see the into the cube and then through the pophole and see the grass n the lawn infront of it. :anxious: Is it meant to be like that?

Also gaps here

Certainly looks like it will be a bit draughty, but more concerned about rain coming in.

Omlet did warn me it might be a day early. Must admit its very scuffed. I was a bit disappointed about the state of it (you can see the scuffs on the photo), but I guess it will be mucky and covered in chicken poo soon enough.

I've read the thread about the gaps. Its a bit of a worry that I may have leaking issues with it. I'm sure I'll find out soon enough.

Thanks.

No it isn't, I paid the full wack for it. Not very happy with it to be honest the more I think about it. I suppose it is only cosmetic, but it will get ingrained with muck in the scratches that won't come out and will no doubt affect resale value if I ever decide to sell. When it costs so much you do sort of expect it to be perfect.

Its the purple roof and sides of the cube which are the worst and I didn't notice it until I'd done the wheels (twice) and wasn't stopping then halfway through!

Yeah, think I'll email them tomorrow to be honest and ask for advice on the gap and tell them about the scuffs as well. The gap looks wrong, have been looking in the brochure and those look like a flush fit.

Hubby is there fiddling with it now in the dark trying to sort the gap out.

I would definitely complain about the scuffing. You dont expect a brand new product of that value to arrive in that condition. :shameonu:

The gaps are another reason I hate my cube, I know chickens are meant to have ventilation but that is ridiculous.

Excited for you that its arrived though.

Hi,

I have a purple cube too - but I don't have your gaps ! I did have ladder holes that couldn't all line up, but we live with it. (took 2 of us 2 hours to put together)

As the alternative is a wooden coop and I fear the red mite, what's the choice? - have just bought plastic roosting bars for the cube too (which arrived broken) but have heard they are easier to clean.

Good luck with the tweaking - is your ground totally flat ? sometimes that doesn't help.

As a plus, when our wheel unit snapped 10days after purchase we got a new set really quickly.

The gap is definitely not right. I've got a cube and it doesn't have any gaps although it was put together by a nice omlet man. I think you might have to re-adjust it.

But I would definitely not put up with the scuffs on the cube, thats just not right. Get onto omlet. As you say the boxes actually looked in fairly good condition.

I would send them the photos on here and ask them what to do.

Hope you get it sorted out.

I probably like lots of potential omlet customers have been considering to get an omlet product for over a year, got to say their customer services does get really efficient reviews so I am sure they will promptly sort it out for you!

But yours is not a good advert . you should def notify them to get this sorted out as you have spent a lot of money on this product. It should be in A1 condition. The scuffs are really obvious..dont even see those on second hand pics! I think your hens would be happier in a draft free cube too?

Let us all know as I am interested to know being a potential customer, you def need to let them know now. If they dont know they cant fix it??

Good luck and have fun , just wish i could afford one of these..I will keep dreaming...

I spoke to someone at Omlet this afternoon who has given me some very helpful advice fore readjusting brackets to try and lessen the gap. I don't have the time to do it now so will have to wait till the weekend. Hopefully hubby may get carried away and do it for me by then as well.

They said sorry about the scuffs. :|

Please let us have an update, agree re scuffs, a few years ago i bought a forsham duck house and they are really good for a small fee I think it was £15 or something like that they put the product together(it was wooden and well built lasting for 9 years up by a very damp pond area). It does seem those customers that live in the Omlet ZONE seem satisfied always with the product.

If you cannot tighten the gaps up I wouldnt be happy with this as if it leaks the nesting area will get wet and if it gets wet in the cold weather it will ice up...just like an ICE CUBE!!

Hope Omlet will make this good for you and will make you another satisfied customer, they were happy to take your money. Or ask for it all back and reorder again!

How disappointing...um...

Good luck

ps I am now thinking to get a second hand one as at least it will be put together for me! Sorry!

I'm quite shocked actually that they just said sorry - surely its against trading standards or something. I know the scuffs don't actually make a difference to the way it works but wouldn't it be classed as a 'second' and then surely be priced lower :?: I mean you wouldn't buy a new car with scuffs along the side for full price would you?
