Janty
Here are some photos of my ten week old chick, Chipolata. What breed do you reckon he is? We love Chips to bits but he can't stay unless he undergoes a gender rethink.
pencilbeckett
Hi What a fab name and what a shame he cant stay. Is he a cuckoo maran, i am no expert but have been looking at different breeds recently. All the chicks look lovely.
Griffin
Yep, I agree, Cuckoo Maran and there's got to be something else too to get the white splashes. I'm playing the same game with my chicks, guess the parentage
Janty
He's definitely a hybrid...that's all I know.

Snowy
I saw some cuckoo marans today - just the same colour as Chips. But speckledies are also that colour, and they are a cuckoo maran hybrid. Although looking at my little breed book, he could also be a male version of the black rock, as they also have that incomplete cuckoo colouration. Janty
Just been snuggling him. We will hate it when he crows and has to be rehomed.
chelsea
before I scrolled down I was going to say cuckoo maran.....and then saw that some other replies said the same!

Cooks
Janty said he was a Hybrid though didn't you Janty or did I dream that part? which is why I thought Speckldey, but seriously I am none the wiser..
tom123
Well you asked me to come and give my verdict Janty so here I am! Here is a pic of some 12 week old cuckoo maran chicks... and another To be honest I think chip is a girl as apparently the cuckoo maran pure breed boys are a lot lighter than the girls in colour. Thanks for asking my opinion! Good luck Tom

Trouble is, we are really excited that Chips might be a girl. Fingers crossed. Jan

Griffin
I agree with Tom, there is hope. Chips isn't standing like a boy in that first photo.
Janty
Chips was a very masculine chick when we first got her/him. I do think there is hope at the moment but I did worry that we were just clutching at straws.
