The Dogmother
Just got this in the Innocent newsletter: Knit's that time again Yes, time for another few weeks' worth of ill-judged knitting puns. Seems like it's come round a bit quick but there you go. Anyway, it's time to dust off your needles, unravel your wool and get knitting. For those of you unfamiliar with the concept of Supergran, it's a bit like this: we knit lots of little woolly hats, stick them on the bottles and then sell them in the shops. For every behatted bottle sold, 50p goes towards helping keep older people warm this winter, via the good people at Age Concern. This year we're aiming to knit 175,000 hats (last year we did nearly 96,000) and whilst we're OK at knitting, it would be great if you fancied helping out. The knitting pattern and all other details are here and this year the Supergran bottles are going to be available in Sainsbury's.
Guest
Hmmm! None of my hats are in the picture I took my knitting on holiday and impressed my children with some gorgeous little hats. When does the newsletter say the hats have to be in? The info I got from Fruitstock said they had to be in by August 31st. If there's a later date I could knit some more . . . The Dogmother
That's all the info it gives Ginette - sorry
Guest
Right, I've looked at the Innocent website and it says the closing date is 30th November. I wonder why they said 31st August on the Fruitstock stuff? I only did 9 hats and could have done a few more! Oh well, if I get a moment . . . Here is the info on how to knit them and where to send them. http://www.innocentdrinks.co.uk/supergran/howtoknit/ It would be interesting to see how many hats come from Omlet people! The Dogmother
I can't knit to save my life (can sew though), so will spare them my offerings.

Guest
I can't knit to save my life (can sew though), so will spare them my offerings. Clare, these are SO easy! Only 8-12 rows of just 28 stitches. You and Rosie could both have a go. The bobbles are fun too. On the Fruitstock info it said you could just send in hats and they would add the bobbles. So maybe you and Rosie could just make bobbles, if you don't want to knit?
Popcorn
Thanks for posting the pattern Ginette - this is right up my street! I'm warming up my needles as we speak.....
Guest
They look absolutely gorgeous when done. I was really thrilled with mine. And you can use up all those half-balls of wool, mix and match your colours and feel like you're contributing to a good cause. Have fun! If I had the time I would Ginette, I used to do loads of dress-making and embroidery, but just don't have the time these days Tonight is helping Rosie with her homework, paying the bills, making lunch for tomorrow and hemming two pairs of trousers My mother used to be a great knitter and did some of the Kaffe Fasset patterns for me, but she has arthritis in her hands now, so can't do it any more. One day, when I have the time I will take up all these things again because I got so much joy from them. I'll come over for some knitting lessons then

Guest
know the feeling Clare Me too! It's the first day I've had no children at home and I have slogged all day on my job, preparing for going to work tonight. Consequently, no housework done, dishwasher not emptied, place a tip and I have to go out NOW. No lunches made for tomorrow either. Looking forward to tomorrow - maybe I'll have time to tackle the mess! I don't want to sound smug, because I'm not, but I am really grateful that i have always been able to stay at home. I don't know how you all manage a full-time job, house and family.

What a great idea - I;'m going to have a go at some - how can we work out how many the omleters have made?

I shall be knitting lots more i have got a lot of oddments of wool, thanks for the link Ginette the pattern is so easy I am sure anybody could knit one or two, I can't wait for them to appear in the supermarket. The Dogmother
I can't wait for them to appear in the supermarket. We'll all be scouring the shelves to see if we spot one of our own hats!!! That's the general idea What's the betting that some unscrupulous little oik will start nicking them and they'll be on ebay before you can say 'bobble hats'! Sainso's will have to post and armed guard on the Innocent counter in each store.
Guest
I think all the hats have to be in by November 30th so don't forget to post them! I'm disappointed I haven't had time to do more, but I have another 12 or 13 to send. I suppose that's 22 altogether, which equates to 11 hours knitting, so not a bad contribution really. But I wish I'd done more
chocchick
*realises she is in the wrong thread*thought you said "for you you nutters" I'm more of a nutter than knitter They look very cute though. Sadly the instructions make no sense to me.
