4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

I bought a hen from Omlet just before xmas alongside other members on here and there appears to have been 3 of us that I know of where our Hens died!!! This cannot be a coincidence. Is there any others on here that this has happened to?

I'm sorry to hear that your chicken died.

Unfortunately chickens are not the most robust of creatures, and they can just keel over without much warning - it's happened to others on here, and not just to people who got their chickens from Omlet.

 

Are your other chickens ok? And did you ring Omlet to tell them about it?

As Olly said, I doubt that this could be a malfunction on Omlets part - sometimes chickens just keel over. Chickens can be ill for a very long time without showing it (to maintain their place in the pecking order) until the last minute, and if you dont look at them closely or visit them during this time, it can be easy to miss.

My hen as some of you will re call was poorly as soon as I got her the vet felt she had a disease. I notified Omlet and they seemed to think it was a one off, but it may not have been as there were two others around that time that had similar problems.

 

I notified them and they were not too concerned about the other hens they have as they felt it was just mine. I did warn them to look out for it but they assured me that their hens were all okay, which was good.

 

Nevermind these things happen.

Very sad about your chicken, & the others, but I don't think the three experiences were related, and not even coincidental if you think of 3 out of hundreds.

 

Certainly Omlet would want to know if a batch of chickens had an illness but, reading the posts, these all seem to be unconnected events.

 

Terribly sorry you had this sad start to henkeeping, hope it's very happy for you now.

to me it seemed to be strange as they were all bought around the same time, and Omlet said this doesn't happen very often.

 

Hopefully things are all okay now.

 

We have been pleased with the 2 hens that we now have, and feel that Omlet chickens are great and we have highly recommended them.

I have but they have said that these things happen and that the hens can just die.

That's awful . I'm so sorry . Surely Omlet can't think it's normal that you've lost 2 girls so young .

Might be worth you considering asking your vet to do a post mortem on her Mrs AVP.

 

It might shed some light on the matter.

If it helps - I got 6 hybrid girls in August, all fine. I got 3 lovely pure breeds in October and have only 1 left. I lost the other two to different causes.

 

whoever said the chooks keel over, is right. I'm working on a 22% attrition rate in all future chookforce development and planning.

Oh dear how very sad, and really quite horrid for you ..

 

I`m of the same opinion as Egluntine, I know its costly in different areas and with the problems facing so many people at the moment re outgoings, if it is at all possible for you cost wise, a post mortem is the best way of finding out exactly what is going on.

 

No matter what the outcome is it will save both you and..should it be something in the flock as a whole from Omlet, something that can be treated and dealt with.

 

Not that it is at all related I`m certain and I`m not a person that goes in for ill informed scare-mongering, but I live in a farming community and they are aware of the same old same old from the bernard mathews places around here and the cases of bird flu just in february of this year, so I`m terribly careful about everything..just incase..

 

I do send my best wishes to you because its so sad, I know I would be very upset if anything happened to mine thats for sure.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I had the same happen to me only yesterday! I had 4 chooks, two from omlet last year and then two from a very good breeder in Jan this year, all were fine, a few introduction problems but we'd overcome that a week or so ago and all were getting along fine, eating well, drinking, dust bathing etc happy chooks I thought. Then I got up yesterday to find the youngest Lilly lay out on the roosting bars unable to move, she passed away an hour or so later. I couldn't believe a healthy chook could just go so quickly! And she was my favourite!

She'd laid her first egg the day before so i'm not sure if that's what finally tipped her over the edge or not.

Thankfully i've woken up today to find the other three still ok, I was scared to open the eglu door just in case.

I really hope your last one is ok!
