ubereglu
I finally find a pair of joules pumps on ebay in the right size which are really nice, however they end on Sunday at about two in the afternoon, which means there's no hope of me getting them as I'd usually get my sister to bid on things for me, but she's likely to be on a train when the auction ends... I just regret not buying the pair I tried on in Street now. Never mind.
dancing cloud
If you sign up with auction sniper, you don't need to be there when bidding ends. You have to pay them a small commission on your wins (not if you don't win), but I find it well worthwhile . You can even set up bid-groups specifying different bids for different items and telling it when to stop eg after one win, two wins etc In theory ebay forbids the use of sniping and says it can ban people who do it, but millions of bidders use auction sniper and no one 's been banned yet. May be worth a try?
Blackrocksrock
You can bid in advance up to your limit from now on and then can be paid within a couple of days I think.
Cinnamon
Set up a snipe,Liz. www.auctionsniper.com Its easy, works a treat & you will bid at the last second, keeping the bid low so you will probably get them cheaper
Geoid
I hate snipers, it goes against eBay's rules and affects the people who use eBay properly.

Guest
I hate snipers, it goes against eBay's rules and affects the people who use eBay properly. That's VERY short-sighted Fred. Why should you only be allowed to bid on things that end when YOU are online? I don't like to bid in advance as you can push prices up to inflated levels by getting into a early bidding war. Auction sniper just does EXACTLY what I do if I'm online at auction end. Throws in that super high bid that will beat the competition in the dying seconds. I did it live when I "won" my Aga - I bid with 10 seconds to go and made sure my bid was high enough to beat any existing bids as well as being late enough to stop anyone bidding up when they saw my bid. I use auction sniper to do the same if I am at work, or out, or (far more likely!) in bed when an auction ends. Ebays "rules" are rather pants anyway - they are all designed to maximise Ebay's profits. They actually encourage shill bidding by setting a reserve level so high that you can't offer a true low starting auction for something under £50. Cooks
I have to admit I don't like sniper bids either., so I am with Fred on this one. That's not an auction really is it, you don't get to put a bid in at a proper auction within the last few seconds like that... so I don't like it. edited for typo

Some people like to bid early and others like to bid late! Surely Sniping is like putting in a telephone bid???
Cooks
I dissagree, because the late snipers bids all go in roughly around the same time in the last few seconds that is unrealistic as in a 'true auction' your right, 1 person could put a last minute bid in, but not like sniperbids where there are multiple bids going in at the end. Each to their own, but I dont like it that way. Fred's right it does breach Ebay rules and although I do understand you feel that Ebay rules are there to maximise their profits, they are their rules and people that dont like them do not have to use ebay. Having said that if sniper bidding works for you then thats great.
Guest
Now I've never seen multiple sniper bids going in at the end. I guess the kinda things I buy are not THAT popular! I think bidding last minute is the way to go though - saves getting shilled or having a real bidding war. Some things though I find it better to put an early bid in on but depends on the item. I buy a lot of furniture and you always get a lot of last minute bids although few in the last seconds. As for Ebays "rules" - they lost all credibility with me when they changed the rules on feedback - you can't neg a buyer????? That's just madness. Then the doozy came you HAVE to accept PayPal as a payment method???? If I list something for COLLECTION only I want CASH!!!! The theiving so and so's had my listing fees and now want to collect again? Yeah right - but of course if I REFUSE to accept a paypal payment I am in trouble AND can be negged by the buyer - who I can't neg back!!!! The last 2 items I sold were collection items and totalled £700 of sales - there is no way I wanted to lose a chunk of my profit for paypal fees when someone is coming to my house to pick up the item. I don't blame sellers for hiking up the "handling" charges on their P&P when they are trying to recover some of the silly PayPal fees. ooooh I got on another rant! Go me!! Cooks
I agree with you about the wanting cash if it's collection only, that's madness to have to accept paypal for those items. I didn't know that one, I ahven't sold anything on ebay for a while now. But I buy a few bits
Egluntyne
Ebays "rules" are rather pants anyway - they are all designed to maximise Ebay's profits. Business is business. Guest
Agreed Eglutine but you pay to list. Making you pay again to accept payment is what gets my goat! Especially when you don't want to get paid online. The feedback thing is a nightmare though - I sold a high priced item (+£500) a few weeks ago and the buyer STILL hasn't arranged collection. She is seriously messing me around, I have no idea if this sale is going to fall through BUT I'm going to end up liable for some high fees and if it all goes wrong I can't even neg her! Although if I'm too pushy she can still neg me. (this sale was on 1st Feb!). I already got one neg thanks to this ridiculous system (woman won, then wanted to pay with someone elses paypal account and have high priced items posted to unconfirmed address). Why do Ebay suddenly think buyers need protecting and sellers can go hang - it's the sellers who are paying all the fees!
