brother getting married soon, I need dress help!!!

Recommended Posts

well, anyone that knows me knows I DO NOT wear dresses :shameonu::shameonu::shameonu: but I am going to my brothers wedding in June so I have to. I want a flattering dress that drops from the bust if possible to hide errrm a multitude of sins. But this is the other thing..... I dont like modern dresses that I have seen, so is there somewhere that does vintage clothes??? something boho design probably would work as long as it was wedding suitable.

arghhhhhh wedding in June so have a while.. I am looking on ebay at the moment in case something pops in my face..... size 14 if anyone notices anything. and I am 5ft 7 so I do better with long dresses than shorter ones IMO.

thanks for your help...

But if you don't do dresses, why not do a lovely trouser outfit for your bro's wedding? I don't do dresses either and wore trousers for my Dads wedding - some lovely chocolate trousers from Monsoon with a chocolate vest top and a thin, white, voile type jacket over the top and some chunky beady jewellery. Everyone said I looked stunning ( but it's the only time that's ever been said to me at any formal do!) and I actually felt really comfortable as well! 8)

Def wear what YOU WANT to wear. There is nothing worse than felling uncomfortable!

Ohhhhhhhh shopping trips!!!!!! as I have just purchased (cube green) Gordon I will have to get the shopping buzz via other peoples purchases!

How about a trouser suit with a flouncy top to make it look dressy if you get my meaning?

I think that's why I am getting do nervous... I dont do dresses, it took everything I had to choose a wedding dress.. having said that I DID wear a dress when I was heavily pregnant and it was a really hot summer so I wore a strappy dress infact most of the time  and thought, well I dont have to hide anything, I am pregnant!.. but sadly I dont ahve that exuse to hide behind now...

maybe I will look at a nice trouser suit  yes Em, I think that might work, but I am THE WORST shopper, I never know what flatters me or doesn't... ...

Take a friend shopping.......take ME!!!! He he

Seroiusly though i always take BF shopping when there is a big do coming up as she is completly honest!!!! She tells me if things are too tight, or if something doesn`t flatter my lumps and bumps, she does however do all this rather loudly so the whole shop hears "those trousers make your bum look big and that top.......are you joking!?

Good job I love her and get away with doing exactly the same thing to her.

PS she does also tell me I look nice when she approves.

Go for it- take a friend shopping, definitely not your OH, buy a few and take them home to try, you can return any that you decide against. And at 5' 7" and a size 14, you will look gorgeous in anything! Don't worry! :D

 Cross posted with Palmer07 - snap!

This is my possible wedding outfit for this summer (subject to BF vetting of course)

with some ballet pumps and a little bag.

I hate shopping for specific occasions but sometime you just have to put on those comfy shoes and not come home until you have brought what you need. I always find lunch and a big glass of wine helps!

That's very pretty 8) .

(I can sympathise, I'm not a dress wearer or a shopper either  . I've got a wedding to go to in May and may well have the same dilemma :( . I did buy a dress ( ) for a wedding last year but will have to see if I'm feeling too fat to wear it :( . I wore an M&S big pant hold everything in torture garment under it and had to remove it halfway through the evening  . Yes, I went commando at a wedding  .)

lovely dress :D

going back a couple of posts (sorry) but a WHITE trouser suit.

I couldnt, I just couldnt.

while it looks fabulous on some people - I would probably embarrass myself in about 3 minutes (yes, before I got in the car to go to the wedding  )

I have some white (ish) jeans, that I am still building up the courage to wear

sorry for that, I had to say

The dress is lovely 8) a little thing about the white trouser suit is will the bride be wearing white? (my Nana told me years ago you shouldn't look like the bride, or something similar  )

Have you thought of a personal shopper? my friend tried one as an avid shopping hater, and she booked into a large department store, sat in the changing room while this lady wandered round choosing outfits for her colour and frame, things she probably wouldn't have chosen and lots of them looked great on her :D She came away with a lovely outfit and no hassel :D

I thought it was etiquette not to wear white at a wedding......unless you are the bride. :D

I remember going to a wedding years ago where and aunt of the groom wore a white toga like arrangement. Aside from it making her look like 16 stone of lard, the older female guests were muttering about it being a breach of acceptable behaviour and trying to upstage the bride.

There are a lot of linen dresses like this one in the shops at the moment.

There was a per una one in M&S that was similar (although having seen the FWM one it looked cheap in comparison!) and I'll be they are in lots of the shops too. perfect for a wedding and could be worn again as linen is so easy to wear!

All I need now is to find somewhere that does a good copy of some £450 shoes I saw on the same shopping trip.

Mindful of my signature I bought nothing - although I would wear that dress for work!!! (but possibly not he £450 shoes!!!)
