I know someone on forum has mentioned mice but apologies if this has been aired before. We moved into this house 2 yrs ago (its a chalet type with big roof space) Almost immediately we had unwanted guests in the shape of a squirrel. Managed to get hole blocked and alls well. Last night OH said "can u hear that noise" I listened and could only hear the clock. he reckoned it sounded like someone moving boxes! (Very strong squirrels!!) He wondered if it were squirrels. We are going to investigate this evening. I was pegging washing out and saw 2 charging up next doors oak tree. Our cats dont "do" squirels! Their speciality is mice and pidgeons!! Needless to say I hardly slept a wink and feel like the walking dead this am. I know its stupid being spooked by a small furry creature but I dont like noises at night and remember all those horror movies I shouldnt have watched Any ideas please , we have a trap which doesnt harm them. Short of borrowing friends cat who does "DO" the furry beasts and brings thro cat flap for my friend I am somewhat at a loss as what to do.

Best get the council pest man in.

 

They may be causing structural damage inside your roof space.

 

My neighbour had the base of the rafters eaten away in his house, rendering it unsafe. The family had to move out till it was sorted.

As far as I am aware it is actually illegal to release trapped grey squirrels back into the wild unless you have a licence. I read somewhere that the RSPCA has a licence to release them but I've no idea if this is true, and you would still have to catch it first.

I thought that they dispatched greys, on the subject of cats & mice my youngest cat brings the darned things in to play with and loses them

Got in from work - all quiet on western front. Knocked on loft door and listened for scampering feet Nil heard. Hope its a false alarm will push OH through loft door tonight to investigate. It has occured to me that squirrels are nocturnal!
