quickcluck
redfrock, have you worked out the size of your run, id be very interested!
redfrock
redfrock, have you worked out the size of your run, id be very interested! its 18m2 (15ft x 12 ft) and has perches (creating mezzanine levels!) and large plum tree branches etc. Plenty of room for them to feed and drink from (2 long feeders). We are probably going to extend it again (but not get anymore chooks). They get to free range most mornings for an hour while I am out there pottering before work, even in the winter and then in the evenings if it is light enough and most of the weekend. Judging by the amount of eggs we get each day, and the size of them, they are very happy. We have no pecking or feather pulling issues. As much as I would love more I know that 15 is plenty! quickcluck
Thanks that's great, mine is a similar size and I am planning 10 chooks and was worrying they wont fit in! they wont be free ranging though Any pics?
redfrock
you will be absolutely fine with 10 in it. We had 11 until recently and they were absolutekly fine - they tend to crowd together and leave most of the run empty but there is room to get away from each other if they wish. The new 5 will go in shortly (one of the big girls died in November so my maths is right I promise!). Pics are on my other computer. I'll try to dig them out.
