chocchick
Not sure how pointy it looks in the photo but Trinny laid a strange pointy egg yesterday. It's next to her normal egg for comparison. The speckles were more concentrated at the pointed end too...
Guest
We get the odd odd-shaped egg as well - I've no idea what causes them, but they always taste just as good as the 'normal' eggs!

Beauty-Box
It's a strange shape, but I bet it tastes beautiful. We have had a few weird shaped ones. I think it's quite nice, because you don't get ones like that at tesco.
The Dogmother
She probably had her legs crossed at the time My Ruby always lays torpedo eggs; she was poorly about 6 months after I got her and since then her egg-laying tackle has never been the same. It is usually linked to bad respiratory viruses, but can just be a one-off thing as well.
chocchick
She does actually have ths sniffles/sneezes occasionally. She seems to have the thing Katy had. It seems to be a one off. Egg broke in the fridge, it developed condensation when I photographed it and think it froze as at the back of the fridge (maybe needs defrosting ). Cinnamon
Great photo - we have had a few like that - once we had a really long, thin pointy one which was great Just wondering about the keeping eggs in the fridge thing - is that what you are supposed to do,'cos I don't I just thought as they are on the shelf at Tesco, then they are OK at room temperature at home - but please tell me if I am wrong (I don't really want to poison everyone!) One Man Banned
I need to post a pic of the VERY interestingly shaped egg Geri laid yesterday. Same shape as yours choccy but Geri's eggs have always had a "band" around the egg, kind of like it gets stuck as its on it's way out and gets a bit more shell added - eggs still gorgeous though! Margot has always laid torpedo type eggs, although they are starting to round up a bit these days!

Don't worry they're equally OK stored at room temperature, they just keep slightly longer in the fridge but can equally get condensation when you take them out which isn't good for the egg. We should probably get one of those ceramic hens, it is a bit congested in the fridge. Will look out for your interesting egg photos Andrew... One Man Banned
May not have time before I go away (and besides that I can't find the bloomin' camera!)
The Dogmother
Our Lily lays eggs like that Andrew - I call them 'cut and shut' eggs as it looks like they've been welded together

We should probably get one of those ceramic hens, it is a bit congested in the fridge. I don't keep raw eggs in the fridge as I thought the shells were slightly porous and therefore they would absorb and be tainted by any strong food smells. They always keep for months at room temperature though. My grandparents kept a large amount of free ranging hens and never refridgerated any raw eggs, I just assumed this was correct. Anyone know the correct thing to do as I tell people off for keeping their raw eggs in the fridge
The Dogmother
There was a long debate about egg storage on here yonks ago. I think the general consensus was that they should be stored at cool room temperature, not in the fridge and pointed end down.
