fluffyknickers
WE GOT AN EGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!! We are so excited (well I am!) we got our first egg. It was 2ounces or 56 grammes and is a perfect little shape and a proper shell and everything. Is that small for a first? I assume its Nugget who did it but she is still crouching, so do they still crouch even after laid it? The irony is I didnt find it! Since we have had the chickens my husband has NEVER EVER let them out in the morning EVER. Today my husband was downstairs and I thought I had better get up to let them out. Came down and there he is in the garden letting the girls out!!!! He walked in with the egg. I told him that he is obviously lucky so should do it every day! Here are the photos. Chickvic
Congratulations! It's not small for a first egg at all! Did you do the egg dance? Nugget will crouch all the time - it doesn't stop if thye've laid an egg!
Cooks
aww I didn't think you would be long, I think thats a good weight for a first egg, mine have all been early 40's except Sugar who was in the 30's

Ain't Nobody Here
Congratulations . What a perfect little egg . The size is just fine for a first egg but they should gradually increase in weight . What a shame you didn't find it .
fluffyknickers
Its such a gorgeous egg! We are such proud parents. I did do the egg dance while husband looked on. My mum has text everyone she knows with the news and then my mum and dad have both been round to see it. The word has spread around the village and we have had congratulatory texts from everyone. Next we are taking out an ad in the local paper I assuming its from Nugget so she has had lots of cuddles this afternoon. x

Hen Watch
Congratulations. First egg was 50g here from Omlet hybrid, and they slowly got bigger and bigger and now anything under 75g is just frankly teeny..... and the shop medium ones look small. I hope you realise that your egg is officially classed as a medium sized egg. http://www.omlet.co.uk/guide/guide.php?view=Chickens&cat=Eggs&sub=size Well done that chicken...... and yes crouching happens all the time from now on. fluffyknickers
Nugget did it again!!!! When I let the girls out this morning there were no eggs. So did the school run and came home and looked outside and nugget wasnt in the run. Ah-ha I thought, wonder if she has gone to try and lay. Waited until she was back outside and ran out to look and there it was just sitting there. I picked it up and it was still warm! I went round to the girls and told Nugget how clever she is (bless her) and realised I was standing in the garden saying in a high pitched voice "nugget you are so clever, good girl, well done, look what you did"! It weighs EXACTLY the same as yesterdays egg - 56 grammes. I am having yesterdays egg today poached on toast for lunch - so excited!
Chillicat
How lovely!! Perfectly formed too. I'm pleased you got to "find" the 2nd egg. Far better than unwrapping prezzies Oh to find an egg and a warm one too! Our Poachy's first egg was 48g and each day for the past 8 days they all seem to be the same size. I'm sure they will get bigger. The yolks are normal size, just less white and shell ....So, how are you going to cook yours? And don't forget to post a picture

I think my chickens have made me more crazy than I was before! Poached egg on toast with black pepper! before it was poached Nugget the clever girl who did it!
