Cooks
Well, we you know I am running on the 19th July in memory of my FIL, so I have to get training, I have the Nike+ trainers so that area I am all set. I just need an ipod of some sort to keep me entertained in my training when I am not running with my friend. I have been told I can link the nike sports kit with an ipod (placing the sensor in one of my shoes) and this will help me track my progress etc, so I thought oooh I will look on ebay for a second had ipod (I cannot afford a new one) but there's loads of them!!!!!!!!!! how do I know they are 2nd generation or not?? what does generation mean in the first place LOL and help help help me please LOLOLOL
Geoid
Right, there are 4 main types of iPod (out at the moment), They are: Nano (4th Generation) Shuffle (3rd Generation) Classic (2nd Generation) Touch (2nd Generation) The generation part means the latest one (for example the 1st generation Nano is older than the 2nd generation one) The latest ones have better features etc. To use nike plus, you can either use: Nano (all generations) Touch (1st generation) but these need an adapter to use the nike+ feature. or Touch (2nd generation) which has the adapter built in. Cooks
right thanks fred, so 2nd generation just means the 'version' and the higher the number the newer the model? Cool!, now.... *pulls seat close* what are all these different ipods??? I mean surely they all play music?? what are their differences?? some go relatively cheaply on ebay.. some for a lot of money. Geoid
Right: The iPod touch is one big touch screen. The classic the traditional ipod with the wheel on the front. The nano is a slightly smaller version of the classic. The shuffle is the smallest version with no screen at all.
Cooks
sorry fred one more question.... what about memory some are 2, 4, 8 etc what seriously is better to start with?? remembering I cant spend a lot at all. LOL
Geoid
5 GB will hold about 1000 songs. 40 GB will hold about 10,000 songs. If you had a budget amount, I could suggest an iPod. Edited March 21, 2009 by Guest
Cooks
wow! so a 4gb would be ample for me then... thanks Fred thats MUCH clearer than anything I read before.
theherd123
The size of the memory relate to how much storage space for tunes there will be. 8Gb will store more tunes than 2Gb etc I imagine if you just want to put a selection of about 1000+ tunes on for your training then a 2Gb one will do
Cooks
oooh 2gb would be cheaper as well I think wouldn't it.. I might be able to find one of those. Yes I dont know more than 1000 songs.. this is tricky stuff! Although it's something I now want to keep doing to keep my weight down and fitness up. Geoid
The only 2GB one is a Shuffle, that will not work with nike+
Cooks
I've seen a nano in 2gb on ebay just now, but I think I will look for 4gb and up as there wasn't much choice.
Geoid
I would bid on one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/APPLE-IPOD-NANO-8GB-3RD-GEN-GREEN-GENUINE_W0QQitemZ150332852685QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_AudioTVElectronics_PortableAudio_MP3Players?hash=item150332852685&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 if it is cheap enough for you. Cooks
I have a few in my watch list so I will keep an eye on the prices.
Richard T
I'm pretty sure that the Nike+ only works with the i-Pod Nano so make sure you get the Nano.
Geoid
It works with everything apart from shuffle and classic. (The iPod touch 2nd gen has it built in)
sadietoo
Hi, I don't know what your budget is, but you can buy reconditioned Ipods from Apple with a year's guarantee at much reduced prices ...I have bought one for each of my kids now, (one lost their original Ipod and the other one broke theirs ) We haven't had any problems with either of the replacements..(had them about 10 months and 8 months respectively) in fact they are as good as new...you do have to watch the site though because what they have available varies from time to time..... unfortunately they are updating the store at the moment so I can't check what they have...but you'll find it at the bottom left hand corner of the Apple store's page if you are interested
Olly
wow, Fred! That is amazing ... how do you know so much? That sort of succinct summary is exactly what I wanted when I was buying an iPod and I couldn't find it anywhere - if you go to the Apple website you just get bombarded with random information because naturally they want to sell you the latest stuff. My friend has an iPod touch and she was showing it to me on Friday night, and I WANT ONE and I want one NOW! They are so cool. However probably not necessary for running! Good luck with your search, let us know what you get.
Cooks
thanks sadietoo I will check out the apple site, I have a few items ending later this evening in my ebay watch list, so I will have to see how much they reach. I am glad I knew that about the 'classic' model as I could of easily bought one of those and been stuck!
