Margalot
Well I have just carried out my second worming treatment since having the hens using Flubenvet mixed into their pellets. Day one was yesterday and I have just got in from poo picking their enclosure......and guess what!! yes - the most awful looking worms in their poo! At first I thought it was a grass root, white and about half the width of a piece of cooked spaghetti. I am so pleased that I know its working!!, they didnt have any symptoms of worms, but I am so pleased to know I got em dead and am wiping out their parastic lives!! I have also ust wormed the dog now as she loves to eat thir poo just like the monkeys on another thread Yay I am the worm killer

wiblick
Go you! Good to know that it's as well to worm regularly even if the hens are not yet suffering ill effects. how often do you worm? The pack seems to say every 6 months, but people here seem to do it every 4 months?
Margalot
I was planning to do it around every 3-4 months. I wormed them when we first got home on 10th Jan, but I'm not sure I did it properly, - I still fed them treats and Bon bon didnt even seem to touch the pellets. So decided to do it again now, mine do eat a lot of worms they find themselves too, so thought it wise to have another go now. I have just had another wash out in their pen with the hose on the poop and found a few more Its quite satisfying you know!
LittleBoPeep
I tend to add worming stuff to their porriidge. Probably do it every 3 months or so.
Hen Watch
Same happened to me Margalot. No sign of worms but there was a drop in egg production so I thought I would try Flubenvet and saw dead worms in their poo. Horrid. I now make a note in the diary every 3 months and worm routinely. OwenLdn
So when the worms are passed through in the poo- they are dead? I wondered if it was necessary to remove the poos more regularly when worming then incase they eat the worms again they just passed?
Margalot
Well the worms appear dead, apart from one which was moving ever so slightly, but yes I have been removing the poop, and yes it did happen.........Midnight plucked a skinny worm from the poop and promptly ate it But i was reassured that they are on the treatment for seven days, so should be ok?? I am going to scrub and disinfect the cube this weekend. However I am also wondering if this is just an impossible task as the worm eggs must be in the ground they are using, so I will just keep to a regular worming programme I think!
