Ain't Nobody Here
This morning I found not one, not two, but THREE softies in the poo tray . Maisie often lays softies but the other two don't ever . I've been giving them limestone flour and making sure the mixed grit with oystershell is topped up but now I've ordered some Zolcal to see if that will help. I'm hoping it's nothing sinister and just a coincidental blip for them all . I feel like baking but can't . dancing cloud
Oh no! . I'm sure it's just a blip. My Joy went through a stage of laying nothing but softies and zolcal d seemed to do the trick, so here's hoping
Plum
I changed to zolcal d but still got a softee today - in the poo tray as well but clean. So I am giving it to Sparrow individually now rather than in the water. You have to give it per weight. Have you ever tried weighing a chicken Tried kitchen scales, went on to luggage scales and ended up weighing myself + - chicken I still used the softee, gave it to my husband fried. The membrane was intact. How long did you give the zolcal dancing cloud? Hope it helps yours girls ANH.
dancing cloud
I put it in the two drinkers, so all the girls got some, and it stayed there till they were refilled - probably 3-4 days. Joy now lays proper eggs again, so it seems to have done what it should
Ain't Nobody Here
Thanks, all . I was wondering about the glug as we empty it each night . I'll leave it out till it's all gone . Luckily I'm on hols till next Tuesday so can keep an eye on the water level! One more softie this morning already and Molly on nestbox as we speak . Plum
I got a softee again and they were eating it. It was on bars near the door so they probably trampled it. How did Molly get on? Glad it worked for Joy. Here's hoping it works for mine and ANH
dancing cloud
My lot eat the softies too, in fact there's usually a very undignified scrum in the nestbox if there's a softie to be had ! Zolcal wasn't an overnight cure with Joy, it took a few days, but it did seem to work and there have been no problems with her since. Nothing has had any effect on my Daisy top-chook though and after a handful of softies she's now not laying at all - maybe hit the henopause . She's looking well, however and is perfectly capable of putting the newbies in their place (and coming onto my knee for a cuddle ) so it's probably just a case of wait and see if she ever produces again - not that I care a jot as long as she is healthy and happy! Plum
Did you give it for just the 7 day course or have you continued longer. 3 perfect eggs today.
dancing cloud
I think I continued for about two weeks, as it didn't stop the softies immediately and the shells were still a bit thin for a few days too. Glad to hear about the perfect eggs maybe the blip is over

Blackrocksrock
First day since I posted on 13th April that we've had 3 perfect eggs . Let's hope it continues . Thats good that they are all laying again - I have still issues with one laying softees and not at all for days after the lash thing and so I am going to buy the BHWT pellets or crumbs which ever I can buy tomorrow and try them as they sound great
Plum
Yipee first time Sparrow has laid an egg for 13 days and its a normal beautiful brown egg. She's not done that for ages I was convinced she was going to get egg peritonitis or something horrid.
Ain't Nobody Here
Spoke too soon . We're still getting a softie almost every day - not always the same girl . Trying some cod liver oil and limestone flour in their daily corn now
