rabbitfluff
I hung a couple of CDs up yesterday morning as a bit of entertainment for the girlies only to get home after work to find them all skulking in a corner of the run. It was only when I knocked one of the CDs and they all went pelting about the place like lunatics that it dawned on me they were all too scared to go near them and had probably been stuck sulking in that corner all day ! Since one was hung close to their food and water the poor little mites hadn't been able to drink or eat all day! Cue a mass scramble for the food and water when I took it down! We've had a bit of a confab and have decided that shiny things are bad and I'm not to do that again!
Ain't Nobody Here
Shiny things are OK here but don't dare put a big black ring of death in the run (aka a car tyre ). Then a quarter of the run becomes a no go area . Well, you'd obviously get sucked into the chicken pit of doom if you went too close . Bantambabe
Gave mine a mirror - that was ok. Gave them some CDs hanging up - very scary. Argh!........ Hung them above my veggies instead to keep the collared doves that nest at the bottom of the garden off, they couldn't care less
rabbitfluff
Hmm maybe we need some sort of chicken rule book they can consult as to what constitutes a scary item and what doesn't, as their system does seem rather arbitrary. Shiny things no, but the tyre I used for their dustbath is fine, though they do just sit round the edge and poo through the middle, prefering to use the man-traps they dig for dust bathing. Chickens are weird.
Ain't Nobody Here
but the tyre I used for their dustbath is fine, No, no, not the black chicken-swallowing ring of death . You're right, chickens are weird .

Redwing
I put some straw in the chicks house the other night as it was so cold, they did not like the straw one bit! it was like I had opened the coop roof and chucked a cat in! Crazy things
*mummy_hen*
I honestly don't think my girls would be scared of anything....they are all lunatics!!!
C&T
Mine are scared of clean Hemcore... On the days I clean them out, they will refuse to go back into the run, and come night time, I have to wait for them to start roosting somewhere else in the garden so they are sleepy, and then put them straight into the Eglu though the egg port door... By morning (apparently) the Hemcore is safe again.... Haven't tried CD's yet... Love 'em - but not blessed with brains!!
