how easy is it...

Recommended Posts

I like Quorn! As we no longer eat chicken , we find Quorn a good substitute for dishes that require chicken. We eat other meat though & fish.

Personally, I prefer a Quorn chilli, with lots of beans in, than a normal chilli.

I don't think about how it's produced or what it is - I find it not much different than eating ' healthy bacteria' in bio yogurts & yakult. :D

I've been veggie since 1990 and dont miss it whatsoever. I found it really easy as I wasnt really a carnivore when I ate meat. I dont eat fish either, and I dont eat "meat substitutes" or things that are made to taste or look like meat as I think the whole idea of being a vegetarian is to take away the look and taste of meat completely. If I were to eat a vegetarian tasting beef burger I think I would barf!! :vom:

I wish you luck if you are going ahead with it :) , initially if you are a real carnivore it is hard and you need to plan meals and be prepared for little choice when eating out. :(

I'm also not really veggie but a fussy eater.

I don't like the taste or texture of meat so any "meat substitutes" like veggie sausages are out and quorn tofu etc is yeuch!

I do sometimes eat bacon - thin cut streaky bacon cooked until it's crisp or "american bacon" as it's called on the cruise ships (where you get a choice of different bacons at breakki!)

Very occasionally I eat chicken although I can't remember the last time that happened.

If I'm out I order ahead - anywhere there is a set meal I call in advance and get a cheddar cheese salad - after all I'm such a fussy eater I probably won't like the veggie choice especicially if its lasagna - so 99 out of 100 times then!!!!!

Lol thanks for everyones opinions! I think I will just stick to eating meat a few times a week instead! I tried my prom dress on last night and it only just did up. that's more veggies and way way less meat and fatty things for me then! At least I like veggies!

Edited to say that I tried Quorn and it made me feel a little sick! :vom:

Just beware ... vegetarian doesn't necessarily mean less fattening!

(After all, cream cakes are vegetarian! )

Seriously, it's easy to eat less meat and then eat lots of carbohydrate to make up, or substitute cheese for meaty things - perfectly possible to eat a healthy vegetarian diet, but it's not a foregone conclusion that eating less meat will mean fewer calories.

Meat is good for you! (no offense to any vegetarians) It contains vital minerals and vitamins needed for a healthy body. Also meat is an excellent source of protein (I know there are other non meat sources of protein) and protein is needed for growth and repair of cells. Being a vegetarian isn't always healthier or less fattening. Instead of becoming a veggie, get on you bike instead! Cut out the fatty foods (burgers, chips, cake, cheese)

Myself and daughter are both vegetarian, although I still cook meat for the rest of the family.

We use quorn a fair bit and it does need to be cooked in a sauce or as part of a recipe, unless you get the flavoured type. There are a lot of good veggie recipes around but if you do use ready meals then it is worth watching the fat content - a lot of meals tend to be stuffed with cheese. It is also a good idea to take some extra vitamins/supplements, especially to begin with.

Good luck with this and enjoy

Hi,

I'm vegetarian but avoid dairy ( not eggs cos my lovely girls provide these harm free :) ) ....my husband eats fish but no meat ( pescetarian). My children were both given meat until old enough to choose for themselves.. my daughter is vegetarian, my son is a carnivore.....

If you want to become vegetarian the Vegetarian Society is as good as anywhere to begin. Also look at Rose Eliot cook books....

We generally avoid the "plastic meat" sources...eg Quorn...it's really not natural.. we tend to think of it as bad burger.....quite nice sometimes

We do buy the Cauldron sausages from time to time.. they are made from Tofu..

Tofu is fantastic food...but.......you do need to marinate it for the best flavour..

the best tofu is Cauldron smoked beech..then marinate it with garlic ginger and other stuff before slicing it thinly and cooking it in a smoking hot pan...and dousing it with toasted sesame oil ...fantastic.....

It is worth remembering that huge numbers of people exist on a veggie diet quite healthily...

As a veggie twenty years ago and when pregnant with my first child I was concerned that I might need to go back to eating meat to produce healthy offspring ... I am pleased to say my doctor put me in my place by reminding me of the fact that millions of ladies in India deliver very healthy babies on a completely vegetarian diet ...he was absolutely right of course.... My babies were great big healthy bruisers :D PS If we were all veggie would be able to Feed the World....in the words of St Bob :D

:D Well done.

I think you should give Quorn another go  but maybe a different type/style. It will take your stomach a bit to get the right enzymes to digest it (like if you start eating meat after being a veggie for a while), I know we couldn't live without it.

Dad sometimes makes lasagne with Beanfeast (or something like that) which is dried and needs water adding to it.
