YAY our girls are arriving Tuesday!!

Recommended Posts

Getting 3 girlies on Tuesday, we are very excited  , but also a bit apprehensive, as we have not had alot to do with chickens, although OH has read everything on this forum, so should be an expert lol. Any top tips for new time girilie owners???

All advice gratefully accepted!! :D

Of course will be taking loads of pics GNRPPGNR(cube purple)

Ooh! How exciting! :D

Up till 11 months ago, I'd never so much as touched a chicken (other than on a plate ), now there's 9 of the funny feathery creatures rummaging in the flower beds - can't imagine how that happened :liar: !

Like you, I read the forum before the first ex-batts arrived and have continued since. I've found all the support, advice and encouragement I could ever need - enough to fairly peacefully introduce 3 more ex-batts to the original 6.

Best advice? Comfortable seat, large mug for beverage of your preference, waterproof clothing and/or suncream and large-capacity recorder for all the TV you won't be watching. Oh, and a decent answering machine for the phone, since you probably won't be answering that either! :D

All the very best for Tuesday and we will wait for the piccies (did I mention you need a camera too?) :D

Congratulations on your new arrivals

I'm new to this chicken keeping as well only had my girls two weeks but everybody is so friendly on here, any problems somebody is always on hand to help. I have first hand experience on that one  There is just so much to learn but always someone out there to help

Hi fairygothmother and welcome to the forum.

No tips, just ask any questions that arise no matter how small as we've all been there. I had no chicken experience before getting chooks (in fact rubbish at all pets) but chickens are so easy and I love them to bits.

Roll on Tuesday..... :D

Yee hee how exciting!! I only got hens 2 weeks ago but I have a tip - if you have two in the same box, have two people there to get them out when you get them home, we didn't, and our butterfly had done a full tour of the garden before we finally got her under control!!! She was in with mrs little and as soon as the box opened she flew out and led us a merry dance! Hadn't occured to me that one would escape while I lifted the other out or I'd have waited for my husband (he was only locking the car, I just couldn't wait to say hello to them!!). Enjoy!

Our girls arrived safely, and exactly the time we were told :D

Maggie was very noisy for the first hour or so, but calmed down after that and we didn't hear much from them apart from a few clucks.

By 4 o'clock, Betty had been in the nesting box and laid her first egg!! We were all walking around saying how amazing that was even though i guess thats what they do!!

We didn't get anything done at all today, I did try but found myself wandering back out to watch them, which I have to say has been very relaxing. will put some photos up asap.

A very proud fairygothmother :dance::dance::dance:

Congratulations! I hope you did the egg dance? You did know you have to do the egg dance? It's the one where you go leaping round the garden going :dance::dance: , just to convince the neighbours (if they weren't already convinced!) that you are quite quite mad!

You won't get much done in the next few days either so might as well give in to it, get the sunscreen out along with the sun lounger and just go with it!

Looking forward to the pictures :D
