Aggressive to people at 2 weeks old? VID ADDED TO OP

Recommended Posts

Cleaning out the chicks today and the littlest one is really aggressive today.

S/he was actively seeking out fingers and hands to peck, and when s/he couldn't reach, was frantically trying to climb on stuff to get me.

I can go video if needed.

It also might be worth mentioning as s/he grows I can't help noticing his/her toes are starting to curl a tiny bit. Don't think I'll get near to pick him/her up to see whats going on though!!

What do I do?

This is what s/he's like. I don't wave fingers to antagonise him, but i couldn't film him and not get pecked and try to shut the cage with one hand, so I had to move my hand to show you how much hands are a target now

(i don't really think the chick is evil, just made a funny video title)

I've never had small chicks peck me.....only some of the young boys when they're a bit older. I've heard that infra-red light and being too warm can irritate them....could it be either of those. I've tried to fix curled toes a couple of times......once successfully, one not. I pressed the chicks foot down flat onto card and roughly drew round it, cut it out, then taped the foot down onto the card.

I handle the chicks several times a day and they don't seem to mind.....why can't you get near?

They are picked up a couple of times a day. Yesterday he (i am going to call him he) was fine, today he wasn't giving up for no-one.

Don't know whats gone wrong?

He's just inquisitive......following your finger to see if it's tasty  .....and I think it is a he I'm afraid (by his comb and his stance) :(

He'll come running from whereever in the cage to take a bite. Little "Ooops, word censored!"!

I think all of them might be boys, the orps have similar combs starting :( It was almost bound to happen with such a small hatch.
