Egluntyne
Has she got parasites of some sort that are annoying her? Might be worth treating her with Xeno 200 *not licensed for use on poultry in UK to zap anything that might be lurking.
quickcluck
Hmmmmmm haven't seen any, but I will try and get some so see if it helps. Any ideas where I could source it? Is it a net thingy?
Egluntyne
It is much cheaper on the internet than from the vet. Googling will point you in the right direction.
quickcluck
Thanks I found some. should I treat all of them do you think? I so want a chicken with feathers. They've been bald since well before christmas. Nothing is working, and I thought there was a chink of light with harriet
Egluntyne
Won't harm under the circumstances. If they have a depluming mite infestation, you probably won't see them as they are minute.
chickencam
We have a White Star who plucks her own feathers they have all been treated for mites but there was no sign and she just has a bad habit we think a bit like nail biting in humans. she is a neurotic little thing
quickcluck
Did you manage to cure her? We have put a bumper bit on Harriet now she is very stroppy this morning.... I may get some of the johnsons stuff just in case...
Mazzarina
It could be boredom or a vitamin/mineral deficiency which makes her eat her feathers. There are a few liquid supplements you could put in the water if you're worried she's not getting enough vits. I've had a few feather-pecking problems with my lot and am putting apple cider vinegar in their water, and hanging up cabbage etc. when I'm not at home. There are various sprays/ointments you can use to help them quit the pecking habit.
The Dogmother
It can be a depluming mite as Egluntine has mentioned; most cases of self-plucking are because of lice or mites, the itching makes them do it. Try slapping some Johnson's Tea Tree Cream on the exposed skin aftre treatment; it helps to soothe it.
fluffyknickers
Oh sorry to hear they are still baldy - was hoping the bits would cure it. Let hope this works. Michelle
quickcluck
I've everything crossed. They've had every supplement known to man... am trying to get hold of some johnsons anti mite spray extra! We are also in the middle of a new WIR!
