Advice re injured table chick

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if any of you have had a problem like this so I'm not really expecting much response. One of my table chicks has an injured leg. There's definitely a bruise around it's knee. They have been jumping onto their feeder and drinker so I'm guessing it's slid off and done itself a mischief.

It's limping well but it is putting weight on it. Is it worth splinting it? I'm worried that because of the speed they're growing whether the leg will support it.

Should I just wait and see?

Sorry for the ramble but I don't know what to do for the kindest.

Sorry to hear that Moochoo :(

Try arnica pillules from Holland and Barrett. Purple tube 30c rather than the 6c. One pillules x 3 a day. I had a hen with a bruised leg and it really helped her. Ot arnica gel if you have any?

Not sure about the splint? Maybe separate the chick to allow it to rest it's leg for a day or two?

I have never had this problem but if it was mine I would corral it to keep it still for a while, I would be tempted to try and keep it with the others but in a small part of the brooder or as Christian advises you might have to separate it

Let me know if you get stuck, I have assorted dog/cat crates and a spare brooder and lamp :)

Thanks Christian and Tasha. It seems to be putting it's foot down better this morning so I'm just going to keep an eye on it. I did give it a quarter of an arnica pillule last night. It's only 1 week old, didn't want to OD it!

Hopefully, it'll continue to improve. Silly things, they were all boysterous at getting their wings!
