I like Donna - she looks like she's been dip dyed, darker and darker towards her head!! Very pretty!

Well they have just reluctantly gone to bed (I used the torch light tip to tempt them in). I've already learnt so much about them and their personalities.

 

Rose - She's the adventurous one! She was the one who explored the run the most, and was first in the cube.

 

Martha - She's quiet and reserved, but a real forager, she's had loads of tasty worms already.

 

Sarah-Jane - Definitely established herself as top chook, but not the brightest! She was the only one that had to be assisted into bed (much to her disguist!)

 

Donna - She wants to be top chook, and was first to the grub, she's also a little more flighty than the others, and thought that the glug was a great place to sit! Sadly, she seems to be bottom chook, as all the other girls have tried to boss her about (nothing worrying thankfully)

 

I'm an exhausted chicken mummy now, so off to watch a bit of actually telly (instead of chook TV!) and then off to bed (to worry probably!)

Gosh sounds a long day u had ...glad it all sorted itself out & congratulations on your wonderful cube and the gorgeous chickens..they will love their cube. I got my last week and after 2 nights of posting them in they go in by themselves...seems like they have been with us ages & agree I spotted personality traits in them straight away and they have nt changed..Bluebelle is matron..but ur pics are great

Sal, I'm so sorry for the delay, I have lost my last 2 evenings to chicken watching!!

 

My advice would be to clear your social calendar of everything for a few days!

 

On a more serious front, prepare to be paranoid about everything ie. is their poo too soft, is she preening or scratching, is Donna (most affectionate but bottom chook) being picked on, will the dog ever accept them etc etc etc

 

I would also get some grapes in, as they are great for encouraging hand feeding, to start to tame them. Both Rose and Donna will take food from our hands. Sarah-Jane and Martha are having none of it yet.

 

A great decision to have them though, and I hope you and your girls will be very happy!

Glad its going well my cocker spaniel will never get to be friends of the chickens ..he is licking his lips...and I have allowed him a few minutes whinning by them , they dont seem stressed as i think they are so young and then i shut the dog back in doors(more cos I cant stand his whinnig). SO now he is starting to get fed up with looking at them...what i am trying to say is i wouldnt trust particularly ur terrier as i think he isnt young

 

Saying all that my sisters jack russell is really good and goes in the run and hasnt eaten any chickens at all(but he is a youngster)

 

The poos do change sloppy hard there is a thread on here somewhere?? sure someone will come along

 

Good luck sounds like u r all settled and if it makes u feel better i am waiting for my 1st egg..I keep looking in the nest box every day!! indie
